Bridal shower theme ideas

I am hosting a bridal party at a winery.  I'm in total brainstorming mode and need some help/guidance/ideas.

What are some good bridal shower themes?  Do I need to have a theme, or should I have a theme?

I sort of wanted to do a wine paring for the food.  I can't bring in my own booze, I have to use the winery's, which I'm totally fine with.  I wanted to do a cheese, a fruit, a chocolate and a protein paired with a wine.  This could get pricey for a shower though. OR... Should I just have a couple bottles (red/white) on the tables and do a buffet style for the food.

Has anyone gone to any fun/creative showers reciently and want to share any ideas?

Anyone can be cool, but awesome takes practice!

  •      Hi Jallen, it sounds like you're planning a great shower! I think wine on the tables would be great. That way everyone can take what they want, when they want it. Buffet style food will also work, and bonus since it saves money. I'm not sure about themes. I always thought an afternoon tea party shower with mimosas would be lovely. I think that best thing you could do would be to provide something that sets your shower apart from other showers. Something people will remember. Maybe, go back to one of the girls houses and have facials or manicures? Below is a description of my bridal shower, my aunt & sister planned for me. It was so great! People still remember the party fondly.

Oh and another tip, make sure that your bride likes the food you're planning. The one downfall of my shower was that my aunt bought sushi, which I can't stand, and a lot of people wouldnt touch.

We had my shower at my aunts house. She provided red & white wine, and a signature cocktail, which was fun! She hired a henna artist to give each guest, and of course myself, a temporary tattoo. It was a lot of fun. I got my hands done, I felt like an Indian princess. :-)  She also hired a masseuse to give all the girls 10 minute massages. Again, really fun!

After the party we met up with my hubby (then fiance) & his friends in a pub and had some more food and drinks. Good times!

  • You don't need a theme, but if you want to do one, use the bride's interests as a starting point.  Does she love to cook or entertain?  Host a kitchen themed shower.  Lingerie showers are fun, too.  Usually, just the gifts or invitations/decorations follow the theme, so don't worry about tying the food and drinks into it.

I'd just put the bottles out and serve food buffet-style.  Take your cue from the bride's interests and the seasons.  Nowhere is it written that all bridal showers must include chicken salad and caprese skewers, so think outside the box.

I would still pick food that compliments the wine, but I wouldn't worry about getting everything perfect.  A great resource is epicurious.com.  They pair their recipes with a few different wines and link to snooth.com, which is a great wine resource.  You could see what your winery offers that's similar.

  • I think "bridal shower at a winery" is enough of a theme, and trying to add more "themes" will cheapen the whole thing.

I have to agree.  A winery shower is pretty unique on it's own.  If you want to continue the theme..

Use wine colored ribbons around favor boxes.

Put vines and grapes designs on the invites.

Instead of a guestbook, have all the guests sign a wine bottle for the bride - you can use a gold marker for this.

If you do place cards, you can use wine corks.

If you do any games, the prizes can be pretty bottle stoppers.

    Hope this helps.

BTW - the buffet and bottles on the table sounds perfect.

  • Which winery is hosting the shower? I grew up in MD and love Boordy Vineyards. Their Vidal Blanc is the perfect summer wine.

I totally agree with previous posters that you don't really need a theme, other than the setting.

I think the buffet is a perfect idea. Not everyone will want to drink, (well, maybe not everyone... I don't know your friends/family so who knows... maybe they will all want to drink. ) Big Smile But I think this would make for a less formal, more comfortable shower. I'm not a big "game" person for showers. I do enjoy the pre-newley wed game, where you ask the future DH a bunch of questions then ask the bride the same questions and see how many she gets correct. Otherwise, I think they just get cheesy... and although good cheese is great with wine, to many games reminds me more of velveeta, which is not good with anything.

What time of year is the shower? I think decorations could just be about simple flowers, with bunches of grapes. Simple and elegant.

    Have a great time!
