Mrs.CPH

I did a sketch to figure out the dimensions for the DIY Colette, and have a couple of questions ...

Originally I was thinking the outer dimensions should be 81 1/2 inches by 77 1/2 inches to get inner dimensions of 80 inches by 76 inches, but then as I was thinking through it, I'm assuming you get some "bulk" from wrapping batting and fabric.  Did you add a half inch or so as a "buffer"?

Did you incorporate a boxspring?  Our boxspring is 9 inches and the mattress is 12 inches.  It looks like the inner slats would put the bottom of the boxspring at 5 inches, so the height would actually be 18 inches above the side supports - which I think would be fine (it's just a bit higher than the height of the bed we're borrowing from my parents guest room).

Thanks!

Re: Mrs.CPH

  • I didn't add a buffer but I suggest you do, our bed is extremely tight!

I used 8 inch legs so with the box spring it was too high. I'm still trying to determine if I want to purchase shorter legs and use the box spring but I think i'm decided not too...

Oh I also used 1x12s not 1x10 so the boxspring was covered more, but then ended up not using the boxspring, but it still works with just the mattress.

Oh and our mattress and box spring is taller, I know off hand our box spring is 12 can't remember the mattress height...

  • Thanks.  I have vacation time I need to use or lose by the end of the year, so I'm taking the week between Christmas and New Years off.  I think I'm going to try and tackle this (as long as my parents don't mind me taking over their garage to store it for six weeks!)
