now critique mine :)

one week til my party!  i am having friends over next Sunday afternoon at 2 for coffee and cookies.  I am thinking about making a couple of changes though, what do you think?

sweets (most have already been made and are in the freezer)

mint oreo truffles
plain oreo truffles
sugared pecans
frosted sugar cookies
gingerbread men cookies
white chocolate dipped pretzels
cranberry walnut swirls
I want to add one more, which would you choose: peanut butter kiss cookies, macaroons, or snickerdoodles

drinks: coffee, hot chocolate, tea, water, milk

snacks: spinach artichoke dip, veggies w/dip, tortilla roll ups

I know it is a lot of sweets, but any leftovers will be boxed up and given to neighbors and co-workers as gifts.

Re: now critique mine :)

  • I vote to do snickerdoodles, but roll in the red and green sugar instead of cinnamon sugar (we call them holidoodles).

For snacks I'd add the veg to the spinach dip platter and add either cheese and crackers or some sort of seafood dip.

  • I agree, I'd add another savory appetizer, but I was thinking instead of another dip, something a bit heavier.
  • I think I will add a cheese platter.  I specified on the invite that it is primarily a dessert party, so I hope people will have had lunch before coming over at 2.  I may add some fruit too if anything looks good at the store.

  • I vote for peanut butter kiss cookies.  So delicious.

If you want to do something a little heavier for an app you could do meatballs in the crockpot.  Always a crowd pleaser and easy to make.

  • I vote for macaroons.  The first four options, maybe 5 depending on how you do them, kind of read like kid options and I feel like you need a more adult option.

I think your cheese platter is a good idea.

  • Because you already have a sugar cookie in there (and snickerdoodles are basically that with cinnamon) I would either make the macaroons or the peanut butter kiss cookies. I think whichever you think will present nice and give a good balance to the table.

I think I'd add one or two more snacks there too. Depending on the time of the day people might be expecting more substantial food. Maybe cocktail meatballs (I also really like Trader Joe's meatless ones) or shrimp cocktail?
