Home sound system question from a non-tech gal

We've had the stereo in our family room for pretty much ever now. It's a 4 tiered giant eye sore complete with CD changer and (wait for it......) cassette deck. Well.... it finally died today.Dead.  Like door nail dead.  Not even garage sale worthy dead. So.... what's "in" now for home sound systems? We only have 1 ipod and I use it in the car for work.We use our home sound system mostly for the radio and CD's (particularly kids CD's and now holiday ones too)  What are my options? What do you recommend?(links always appreciated!)  I can't have Christmas without tunes so Santa's coming early for us.Not to mention that I think the nanny would be most unhappy with the inability to play tunes for the tykes.
Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
