Republican/conservative posters

What are the best and worst things Cheney has done as VP? Or even just the best things?

Here's why: the next installment of couric's interview with Biden and Palin is out and that is one of her questions.  In commenting on it on the other board, I made the statement that some of the regulars could probably name specific examples of his accomplishments.  Then I realized that I actually wanted to know what they are (in a 100% cross my heart not snarky way).

Thank you!

Elizabeth

Re: Republican/conservative posters

  • According to the slightly anti-Cheney book Angler, one bad thing he did was persuade Bush to choose "old hands" for key positions rather than reform-minded, conservative governors.  Those against the war may say that he was at fault for singlemindedly pressing forward.  However, I think that there is a lamentable tendency among libs to assign a bogeyman, a power behind the throne to Bush, like Rove or Cheney, when it simply is not true.  Angler asserts that there was a diminution of Cheney's influence toward the end of the term.

I like Cheney personally because I think that he is strong conservative principles.  I'd vote for him in November if he were up.

  • Another "anti"---and I could be wrong.  I thought Cheney was a key force in talking up Rumsfeld because of their personal connection.  I think I remember that one was the other's chief of staff. I am tired, so I am not positive.

  • I hate Cheney and can't think of one good thing he has done.

As for bad things, I think the Iraq war is his fault. I think he has abused his power and what pisses me off most about Bush is he has allowed it.

I am tired and groggy so I am sorry I am not getting into specifics.

  • Thanks for the answers ladies - swear to god I was/am interested in positive things.  I personally think he's a smart guy - VERY smart - but I'm not really wild about what he has done as VP.  JulieF - I respect your take on him.

    Again, thanks.
