Totally freaked out about DMV tomorrow!
We moved here about two months ago and have put off getting our liscenses changed. One of DH's co-workers told him that when he moved here and went to get his liscense, they made him re-take the written and vision tests, and put him into a "random pool" to retake the road test! Ah! The thought of taking tests I haven't taken in over 12 years scares the s*&% out of me! Any parallel parking tips ladies? :oP
Re: Totally freaked out about DMV tomorrow!
I moved here 5 years ago and finally changed my license when I got married. I had to take a written test and a vision test. There was no talk about a driving test. The written test was actually harder than I thought it would be but you could get 7 wrong and still pass and there are not that many questions (I think I got 3 wrong), so don't be too nervous. Grab a book and study while you are waiting.
I would avoid the one on Elston if you can they are known for being pretty rude. I went there with all my information (DL, Marriage Cert, & current utility bill) they turned me away because I didn't have my new SS card, even though I had my receipt from the SS office. Two weeks later I received my new SS card and brought that along with everything from before and my passport (wasn't taking any chances this time!). So I hand him my SS card, DL, utility bill and passport, he says, "Where's your marriage certificate?" I showed it to him and he seemed almost disappointed to not be able to turn me away. People change their name without getting married! Anyway be sure you bring any document you could possibly need and cash (I'm not sure they take credit cards).
When I moved here after we got married. I had no clue that I had to retake the written test. I was really ticked it was taking so very long for my number to be called- but then I figuered out why when they told me that I had to take the written test.... ah they were giving me time to study the f-ing book that they gave me... So I took the test- got them all right... ah better than I did 15 years previous.
Just be prepared to be there for a couple of hours.
I just did the written test a few months ago. Just take like 15 minutes and read the booklet and you're fine. Sadly, I did miss a few questions, but I still passed.
I really hope that if you have to take the road test, they would pass any normal adult. I *hope* they wouldn't fail an adult who had a license before and seems competent but cant parallel park.
Just got back from the DMV in Lombard (we were only there for about 45 minutes...) and I passed! lol Got 3 wrong (damn trick questions) and of course the DH, being the overachiever that he is, got them all right. I had no clue that I was supposed to be reading the booklet as a "study guide" :oP THANK GOD I didn't have to take a driving test! I still thought it was stressful, though!
