Check your smoke detectors

DH only works with about 6 people in his office and what a week....

Saturday a worker's grandpa's house burned down and the grandpa didn't make it out.

Early this morning another worker had his house burn completely down too.  He made it out with minimal burns.

Re: Check your smoke detectors

  • How terrible!!!  Poor grandpa.  :'(

My aunt and uncle had their house burn down 2 years ago due to a power surge from the outside electrical lines. They lost their dog in the fire, and the home and garage were completely destroyed, but they were at work so luckily neither of them were hurt.

But then...just a few months ago, lightning hit their house (???) and started an electrical fire in their kitchen!!!  Luckily my uncle was home and able to turn off the main electrical and get the fire out before it spread. My aunt is looking for a new home...she doesn't want to be there anymore. 2 fires in 2 years was more than enough for her!

So many fires start this time of year, especially with all the Christmas decorations and space heaters.  Good advice about checking your smoke detectors!

  • Oh how awful! :(:(

A very good reminder though.  I will be checking ours tonight.

  • How horrible!

I just bought a pack of batteries to replace all of ours....think B has done it yet? **sigh**

  • We just had a family in our school district lose their house to fire.  I teach science and when we discuss radioactivity I talk about how smoke detectors work.  It amazes me (and saddens me) every year how many of my students tell me they don't have a smoke detector in their home.

  • It is a very common time of year for fires, that's for sure. It was Christmas 2 years ago when my grandmas house caught fire. Make sure you shut off space heaters when you aren't in the room! That's how hers started.
