dogs and cats ruining my lawn

my neighbor's dogs and cats seem to think my back yard is their bathroom. Dogs are really big enough to the fence and cats...well they are ninjas.

They used to let them do that when the house was vacant but now there is people living there and they say they don't do it anymore but I've seen them. its been 5 months and im getting tired. Being said...is there something I can spray or put in my lawn to scare them away?? the thing they sell at home depot, lowes doesn't work. I even bought a spray at petco for that and didn't work.

Re: dogs and cats ruining my lawn

  • Did you try Liquid Fence? The cheapy "Animal Repellant" didn't work for me, but liquid fence did. If that doesn't work, I don't know that any of the chemical type of repellants will work. I've used chili powder with success before. I think the homemade garlic spray is the same as liquid fence. You can also get motion activated sprinklers that spray the cats and dogs if they come into your yard.

  • hmm liquid fence...where do I get that?

Yeah they like water so the sprinkler thing didn't work...they actually were playing with the water

I will try all and report back what worked.

  • Liquid Fence is sold at Home Depot and Lowe's.  It's a little pricey.  I get the concentrate kind and mix it at home in my pump sprayer.  It worked for me with deer and other animals.  I just use the regular kind.  You need to reapply every few weeks or after rain.  After awhile, I was able to stop because the animals got the message.

It's also safe and doesn't harm the animals or anything.  It just annoys them enough to keep them away.

  • thanks for the tip, definetly will try that
  • Do you have leash laws?  Even letting animals use a neighboring yard when it is empty as a toilet ground is rude!   I have two dogs and I would never let them use a neighbors yard to potty.  I also always pick up after them.

If they are letting their animals just run free and they are not staying on their own property you could always involve the law if they are not receptive to your concerns.

You could put up an electric fence, but unfortunately that will only work on/punish the dogs and not the real problem which is the owner.  Cats don't usually get too close to my yard with the dogs because they get chased.
