How do you...

... keep your DH from asking for gifts, from other family members, that you already got him?

My family draws names and we have to give a few ideas of what we want.  I don't want to dictate what DH asks for, but I don't want it be what I already got him.

Re: How do you...

  • I tell the other family members what I got him to avoid duplication, or he asks them for different things.
  • I guess I'll have to do a mass email.  My side uses secretsanta.com and everyone has their own log-in to update their list accordingly.

Overall, not a big deal, just curious. Big Smile

  • If I know that he has given the same ideas to me and other families I just email them if I pick something up and vice versa.

That's what I do too. We don't draw names but my mom will ask for ideas then we'll coordinate together.

  • I just tell other family members what I got him to avoid duplicate gifts. If he has a particularly small list and I happen to get him everything off of it, I just tell him he needs to come up with more gifts in a "variety of price ranges" for other family members.

  • Can you suggest accessories that go with the gift you got him? As in, you get him a blue ray player, and others can get him movies? or a Best Buy card? MH always tells people what he wants, then goes and buys it for himself! Makes gift giving and surprises very difficult!!
  • I take care of sending his list to both sides of the family. My DH is really hard to buy for, so I ask him in advance and then give one gift idea to each person. Also, this year he and I started an Amazon wishlist since we just bought our first home. It's kind of like a registry, but you can add items from any website. That has really been helpful at reducing the number of duplicates.
