??? re Compost Tumbler

I tried a DIY composter made from a trash can last year, but it didn't really work for me because it was hard to turn and then took forever so I felt like I couldn't add new materials.

I'm considering buying/asking Santa for a compost tumbler and think I would be more likely to use it/turn it if I kept it some place closer to the house.  I was considering keeping it in the garage for now and then transporting it to our driveway in Spring.

If you have a compost tumbler -

*Does it leak/ooze?

*What brand is it?

*Approximate price?

Re: ??? re Compost Tumbler

  • I've known a few people who have had them and they all complained about them. I know two people who finally gave up and gave them away to get rid of them.

IMO the best composters are homemade and very simple. They just kind of fence off a mound.

  • I've had no problems with mine.  I think it was $100 at either Home Depot or Lowe's.

  • We have the Lifetime 75 gallon tumbling composter that we bought at Costco for $99.  We really like it.  It doesn't leak that I've noticed and makes compost very quickly. Putting it together is a pain though.  You have to drill the holes through the heavy plastic and you definitely need 2 people for many of the steps.  Just FYI, but it is extremely sturdy and well made.

Thanks.  I've looked at that one but it is $179 on their website and I'm not quite willing to spend that much.  I'll keep my eye out for a coupon though.
