Hey all, I know this is a long shot, but I'm getting worn down. I graduated with a B.A in Criminology and Psychology in March of this year, and relocated with my husband to Chicago in August. I have been intensely searching for an entry-level job since. I have had several interviews and call-backs, but no job offers. I have a part-time job at the moment (my husband is in medical school so he is not working) keeping me from losing my sanity. I was hoping someone here may have some suggestions on where to apply or any knowledge of job openings in the area.
I have a strong background in social justice issues, previously worked as a victim advocate in court for victims of domestic violence, studied human trafficking in Europe for four months, and have experience working with homeless and troubled youth. I am hoping to find a job vaguely related to anything related to the above. I would absolutely love to get back into victim advocacy as well.
Other interests would be in working with NPOs in any capacity to gain experience, working with youth in some capacity (I am considering getting my Master's in Child Development in the future), criminal investigations, or working in a counseling center in some form.
I would also enjoy an office job in a law firm or government agency. Right now I just want to gain experience that it in some form related to my college majors/background. I really appreciate any suggestions or feedback, as I know that Chicago is a huge city so there has to be a job for me out here somewhere.
Re: Help for a recent college grad?
Have you tried the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center? I'm not sure if they are hiring anything other than this:

But it's certainly worth a try right? They may have an intern program you could ask about. Good luck!
