Newlywed Holiday Traditions??
I'd like to start a tradition this year, for MH and me, since it will be our first married Christmas. We don't regularly put up a tree (I know, I know... I've already heard about this from my mother

So collecting ornaments doesn't interest me at this point.... and we don't ski/snowboard/ice skate (not in our local climate) I'd like to hear suggestions from other Nesties!
Re: Newlywed Holiday Traditions??
You could...
-Pick a date to go look at Christmas lights around town and keep that tradition going for years to come especially when you have kids...they like all the different colors and themes.
-Even though you don't put up a tree spend time together decorating the inside or outside of your home for Christmas.
-Take a photo of the two of you plus any animals you have (if you want them included) and do a photo Christmas card to start off your first married Christmas together.
-See if there are any local Christmas productions in your town and make a night out of it.
Just becuase you don't do a tree and wouldn't start collecting ornaments doesn't mean that's where the starting of traditions stops...there's endless possibilities!
You can pick a new recipe year and make something together. If you already cook together regularly, than maybe add a theme.
Or each year you can try a new bottle of wine that you normally wouldn't buy.
This.
Unless you have traveling involved with families, I would say spend Christmas morning at home.
We usally spend Christmas day with my family so Dh and I started having a Christmas brunch at our house for his dad, brother and brother's FI. We go to church then come back and start cooking. After brunch we all open our presents. Its been a nice, quiet and calm tradition so far.
Good luck coming up with your own!
Pick a night, Christmas Eve, or another evening that you don't have plans and make hot cocca and watch a Christmas movie. You could watch the same movie every year, or pick a new one each year.
I also like the drive around and look at Christmas lights suggestion.
Our holiday traditions include-
Black Friday shopping together.
Indy Christmas wine trail.
Cocoa or nog while decorating the tree on Thanksgiving weekend, then watching Chrsitmas Vacation together-obviously not for you.
Every year, I buy cheesy holiday lingerie for Christmas Eve-I saw a cute, sexy reindeer one I am going to purchase for this year. Something fun for him to look forward to.
Opening up our presents in bed on Christmas morning.
Christmas Vacation- we usually leave Christmas night after the festivities are over and come home after new years.
That is too cute!
How about a Christmas-themed day, maybe a little bit of shopping, followed by dinner at a nice restaurant, then a cruise around to look at people's lights, then come home and watch a good Christmas movie?
When I was a 9 year old kid and sick on Christmas all I did was lay around and watch TV. One movie that stuck out was a Christmas Carol (in my siggy) and ever since then I've watched it on Christmas morning every year after opening gifts. Strange way to start a tradition, I know, but it just stuck.
I even got my DH watching it with me now, too.
DH and I don't really have any holiday traditions. My mom started getting ornaments for us kids for every yr and DH's mom kinda did the same thing...so I am keeping that up,
this yr (our 2nd xmas married) we drove around a few weeks ago to look at lights, one of the towns that we live near had Santa, Mrs Clause, actual reindeer, a choir singing xmas carols we went to that, but it wasn't as cool as I had hoped, but DH and I stopped at starbucks and got some hot cocoa afterwards (this was the night we drove around looking at lights) most of the xmas stuff I do, i actually prefer to do with out DH, mostly cus he isn't as into xmas as I am!
Every yr I bake cookies and he enjoys eating them!
.
but maybe look into some things that are going on around your town and go to that, i like the watching an xmas movie together!
oh yeah and I wanted to say that last yr our 1st xmas being married on thanksgiving weekend we were up at my grandmas and walked in the woods and cut down an xmas tree, I know you don't really have a tree or may not want one...but even getting a small table top one together might be fun, we went and got a fake tree after xmas last yr (the real one we had though it was a great memory and it was free it was pretty sad looking!)
and a fake tree I can have up longer!

do stockings..I am trying to do St Nick (Dec 6th) every yr.
We have huge stocking we exchange every year and we do so on Christmas eve.
We have a baking day where we make our favorite cookies together.
We have Christmas movie marathon day where we play our favorite movies and have coffee/cocoa and cookies while snuggled up on the couch.
We go to a Christmas parade,
