Help ~ I need MEAL ideas for Marley

First, let me mention that I don't cook. If Trader Joes's doesn't have it already premade, then we eat out. Everyday.

That being said, I'm trying to make an effort to feed Marley healthy meals at home. She's great & will eat about anything but I can't think beyond the same few meals.

Please recommend some meals/food to give her. Her taste buds will be so grateful :o)

Thanks!?

Re: Help ~ I need MEAL ideas for Marley

  • I've not tried anything off this site yet, but I've printed all the recipes, and they seem easy and kid friendly.

I'm also interested to see what others say, since I;m running out of ideas of what to feed my boys too, especially since Brando is super picky!

  • Since I don't cook either-well maybe once a year- I find the website Fenella shared interesting. I think I can do some of those things.

Thank you for posting this info Brandy and Fenella?

  • lmbo! I LOVE how your so straight out! "i don't cook" lmbo!
  • I cook everyday. lately I've been using my crockpot a lot. This website has some really great crockpot recipes that we've been using. Not only can you just throw stuff in and forget about it, but I also use the crockpot liners and have virtually no cleanup.  http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/

  • Are you opposed to boiling chicken? I try to boil chicken every Sunday so I can shred it for Ella's meals. I mix it with beans, rice, salads, pasta....since she doesn't seem to like red meats.

And I love Jen's idea and btw- Jay Dawg has a kick arse recipe for Salsa Chicken:)

  • btw- I boil it, shred it and then freeze it:) ha haha...Don't want people thinking I'm feeding Ella rotten food...lol
  • My girls are unfortunately on some hunger strike because both are being particularly difficult.  On better days, they will have...

hash browns (patties or nuggets), bacon, pancakes, dry Life cereal, pb&j sandwich, lunchables turkey and ham slices and crakers (something about the thick round slices), yogurt, gogurt, pudding cups, fruit cups, ramen (ie Top Ramen), pasta (ie penne lightly tossed with prego sauce), mac n cheese (easy mac or el pollo loco), fish sticks (trader joe's), chicken nuggests (trader joe's), TJ's orange chicken minus sauce, griller/steamed salmon, rice & gravy, rice & ponzu sauce, sinegang filipino soup, cheese&crackers, goldfish crackers

endless mountains of strawberries (fresh and dried, found in ceral aisle at Ralph's), watermelon, grapes, apples, bananas (esp the little ones we've found at the asian store), raisins, peeled & sliced cucumbers (go figures), carrot sticks

don't forget the whipped cream on top...no seriously, we order extra at IHOP - LOL!!!  HTH

  • I need help too.  Julian is on the same hunger strike as Jos and Natalie.  :)

There are days he eats a  lot and other days I can barely get him to eat anything.  I am at a loss because he does not like mac and cheese, grilled cheese, chicken strips and anything that is typical "kid" food.

He loves japanese food, fried rice in particular,  anything that has lots of "flavor", and salad.  yes, I said salad with ranch dressing.

  • I have this cookbook, The Dinner Doctor by ; it's a great book a) for moms who don't cook regularly or just don't have a lot of time, and b) it uses a lot of convenience foods like the rotisserie deli chickens and bagged salads. Almost all of the meals sound fancier than they are to make, and are supposed to be very kid friendly. I've been referring to it a lot lately b/c with the baby there is NO time to just make up dinner on the spot like I used to.

Here is a recipe a friend shared with me. Her kids love it:

    brocco-curry-chicken-cheese casserole:

Combine 2 cups diced cooked chicken, 1-2 cups cooked broccoli, 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup cubed Velveeta (why not?), 1/2 cup sauteed onion, 1 can cream of chicken soup, 1 tbs curry powder, salt and pepper. Bake in 375 oven until warm and bubbly -about 25 min. I like to mix the whole thing with cooked rice before popping it in the oven, but DH wasn't a fan of the rice, he just wanted the cheese!

  • Thanks for that link!  I am another one who doesn't cook...DH is the main chef in the family.  Sometimes I do manage to whip something up for Ethan, and that's mostly pasta:  mac n cheese or pasta with meat or just plain marinara sauce.  Some days I'll cook chicken strips and serve that with peas/corn/mixed veggies and wheat bread.

We're lucky that he is not picky (yet) so he'll eat almost anything.  We've made chicken masala using the premade sauce from Trader Joe's and he loves that!  This week I made curry with chicken using the Thai red curry sauce from TJ's along with the pre-made Thai style lime pilaf, and I was surprised he ate that up since the sauce was quite gingery.  As you can tell, we like to get the TJ sauces...those have been good for us!

  • Here are some things I feed the boys:

Morning Star Farms veggie bites - spinach, broccoli, etc. They love these. I also get the "chix" nuggets and sticky rice patties for them.

    Mac-n-Cheese

    TJ's Turkey meatballs

"healthy" top ramen with veggies added

scrambled eggs with veggies and cheese

    Any kind of pasta

Frozen waffles and pancakes with cream cheese

All kinds of fruit. My kids will eat their weight in rasberries

    quiche

--I will think of more stuff!
