point and shoot camera?

I am looking a good point and shoot camera so I can carry one with me at all times.  I have a Nikon D40 but want a small one for my purse.  I am looking for one that has a stabilizer so it doesn't take those shaky pictures.  Please recommend one, Thanks!

Re: point and shoot camera?

  • I have a Canon Powershot that's a few years old (Sorry, don't remember the model number off the top of my head) that I love.  It takes great pictures for a point and shoot and has a good zoom.

  • I have an Olympus FE model...I am always shocked at the quality of snapshots that come off that thing and its about the size of a deck of cards, so it goes everywhere with me.  It also does video for those quick "can't miss" moments.
  • I had a Canon Powershot that I bought in 2005, and in 2009 I replaced it with a Nikon Coolpix. I hated this new camera from the start. It took blurry pictures in almost any mode and was horrible in low-light or no flash situations. Yesterday I bought a new Canon Powershot, it believe it is the SX210 IS, and I'm hoping it will be amazing.
  • I just bought a point and shoot for the same reason. I have a Canon rebel but I wanted something I could easily carry around. I got the Canon powershot s90 and I absolutely LOVE it. It takes awesome photos. I think the latest model of it is the s95.
  • Canon!

I have the Powershot SD870 IS, love it!

  • We just bought a Fujifilm Finepix camera. It's totally husband proof (shockproof (1m), waterproof (3m), freezeproof (-10?) and dustproof) and does a great job! The camera fits into the palm of my husband's hand, so it's very easy to carry around (I can keep it in my clutch purse when we go out).
  • I also have the Canon SX210IS.  I upgraded from an older PowerShot, because I wanted the extended zoom and still wanted a camera I could carry in my purse.

If you don't need the 14x zoom, (from DH and my experiences) the cheaper PowerShots are still quite good.
