Tavia's response in my Shoguns post reminded me of something that happened yesterday:
I went over to my parents' because Mom and I were running to town to do some running around. Anyway, she was in my sister's old room trying to get all the kitten's toys out from under the bed - which is where he likes to stash them, so she asked me to grab the broom from the cabinet. The broom cabinet is in the middle of the kitchen and it's got the fly swatters, mop, etc in there, too. It also has a double-barrel shotgun in it. While I've always known my mom loves the double-barrel, because (in her words) 'it's easy to shoot, and it's nearly impossible to miss your target', it threw me off to actually see it in the broom closet (normally it's underneath their bed locked away).
It made me laugh. Maybe it's because my mom is this little 5'2ish, cute woman? I don't know.
((The real reason it's out and so easily to access is because my dad, who is a higher-up at a company in Tulsa, had to fire a guy a month or so ago and he made some pretty serious threats. Serious enough that the company president told my dad to have my mom make sure she's got protection (i.e.: a gun handy), always lock the doors - even when she's home, and to not let my 13 year old brother stay home alone any time soon.))
Re: Speaking of ShoTguns (Tavia)
Wow that's pretty scary they have to resort to that.
That kind of reminds me of my great-aunt who is a hoarder. She was really paranoid someone was going to come into their house in the middle of the night and take her stuff so she started sleeping with a shotgun under her pillow. We were really afraid she was shoot my uncle one night.
