cleaning mini-blinds?

Any tips for cleaning - not just dusting - mini-blinds?  I've dusted several times since we moved into our house, but I think they must not have been dusted for a decade or something because they still look filthy.  Just get a sponge and soap and water? Should I take them down and take them outside? Thanks!

Re: cleaning mini-blinds?

  • Fill the bathtub with warm water and some dishsoap. Take them down and put them in the bathtub... one set at a time. Wipe down each slat under water and take them outside to dry.

Depending on how many sets you have and how dirty they are, you may have to change out the water part way through.

  • It's easier to clean them in the tub than while still hanging on the window. I worked for a housekeeping service once and we did the windows/blinds of a sorority house one day... while the blinds were still on the windows. Worst. Day. Ever.

  • Thanks for the bathtub idea!
