Re: give me a coffee crash course

  • Are you using a traditional coffee maker? We usually use 4 scoops to make about 5 cups of coffee. (Might be a little on the strong side).

If you are serving coffee as one of your drinks you dont have to go ALL out, but make sure you have creamer (coffee mate is great, or half and half), a non dairy creamer (comes in powder form) which you can buy by the canister at any grocery store. Also make sure you have sugar, and any sugar substitutes you think your guests might want (Splenda, Sweet and Low, Equal). AND dont forget the stirrers!

    Hope this helps.

  • If you don't want to accommodate all those different kinds of stirred in stuff, have minimum milk and sugar.

If you want to please people, expand that to include either half-n-half or coffee mate and some artificial sweetener packets (splenda, sweet n low, etc.)

I am not a coffee drinker at all, so I don't have this stuff normally and I don't want to spend a lot of money.  So, when I get artificial creamers, I try to get something with the longest shelf-life.  For artificial sweeteners, I don't buy them -- I grab a few packets here and there from any fast food stores I frequent (McD's, Dunkin Donuts, Chick-Fil-A, etc.)

Instead of stirrers, I just put out spoons but I give them little spoon rests to put them down on when they are done stirring (so they don't make a little coffee puddle mess).

I also like to have a carafe.  It keeps coffee hot and presentable.

  • At a minimum put out sugar, a sugar substitute, and some milk/cream/half and half.  Sugar sub. has a long shelf life and isn't expensive.  We don't use it, but I buy a box of packets and keep it around for parties.  I also picked up a small can of non-dairy creamer and keep it around.  Again, cheap and a long shelf life.

Milk may not be ideal for a coffee drinker, but it will do.  If you really want to splurge get a small container of flavored creamer.  It's not necessary, but it's usually under $2 and can be nice.

To make the coffee, follow the instructions for you maker or on the side of the coffee container.  My mom never used to drink coffee, but her's was the best because she followed the directions.

  • I would put out sugar, a sugar substitute (probably Splenda since some people are allergic to the aspartame found in Equal), half and half, and whatever milk you normally buy.  Most of the coffee drinkers that I know (self-included) would be fine with those four.

As far as how to make coffee, I do 1 scoop of coffee for every 2 cups of water and it usually goes over well.
