So, i'm trying to gather up my ideas for which Christmas cookies i'm going to make this year.
Here's my list so far:
- Candycane cookies (those ones that are white/red dough twisted together into candy cane shapes
- Snickerdoodles w/ hershey kiss on top (Zig requested this instead of the regular peanut butter w/ hershey kiss on top...dont know if it will be a hit or a flop but he begged lol)
- Sugar cookies (obviously...cant skip these!)
- and maybe Thumbprint cookies (the ones w/ jam in the thumbprint)
Any other suggestions? I'm not sure about the last one...My mom usually makes linzer tarts (mmmmm) and hammontash cookies so those two options are out.

Re: Christmas cookie ideas?
I'm going to a cookie exchange party tomorrow and am making these:
Chocolate Peppermint Cookies
Bake: 18 minutes
Microwave: 2 minutes
1. Heat oven to 325 degrees F. Butter two large baking sheets.
2. Place chocolate in microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 1 minute, then stir until smooth. Let cool 5 minutes.
3. Beat butter and sugar in a large bowl until blended. Beat in cooled chocolate. Add eggs and beat until smooth. Stir in flour, salt and cocoa powder until a soft dough forms. Beat in mint extract.
4. Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto prepared baking sheets. Bake at 325 degrees for 18 minutes or until dry on top. Transfer to wire rack to cool.
5. While cookies cool, combine white chocolate and oil in glass bowl. Microwave 30 seconds, stir; then microwave another 30 seconds. Stir until smooth. Spoon about 1 teaspoon white chocolate onto each cookie, then top each with 1/2 teaspoon of the crushed candies. Let stand to harden for 30 minutes. Store airtight up to two weeks. Makes 2-1/2 dozen cookies.

Yum, your list sounds delicious already!
I love the almond cookies that are rolled in powdered sugar. I think some people call them snowballs.
What about oatmeal cookies? Jazz them up with raisins, chocolate chips, toffee, or cranberries and white chocolate chips.
those chocolate peppermint cookies sound yummy
mel, id love to make the almond cookies, but my little cousin is allergic to tree nuts so im trying to make sure i dont contaminate any of the cookies with nuts. so its a gluten-free, nut-free christmas lol. ill think about oatmeal cookies, but GF oats/oatmeal are not very cheap lol

I may have to try the candy cane cookies, I've never done those before but sounds so cute!
Here's a few others: gingersnaps, spritz, chocolate crinkles and rum balls
Sounds like you're doing great so far! Can you tell us more about the candy cane cookies? I've never seen them and I'm rather intrigued.
-Gingersnaps like pp, sprinkle some with red sugar and some with green.
-My mom found these Andes Mints pieces- kind of like chocolate chips, and made a recipe similar to chocolate cookies but using the mint pieces. They were amazing!!! And kind of a surprise because they don't look minty (though they smell pretty freakin delicious)
im so surprised none of you know of the candy cane cookies! we used to make them as kids and they were the best

Aww, they're cute, might have to try them! Thanks for the link.
Molasass cookies are a must have for our holidays!
That's the only other one I can think of that hasn't already been mentioned.
I already baked some molasses cookies (I don't have the recipe here and can't find the exact ones online), and plan on baking russian tea cakes (sound similar to the almond/powdered sugar ones mentiond above), spritz cookies (I got a cookie press last year for christmas that I have yet to use), chocolate crinkles (a betty crocker recipe- they taste like brownies), and I am making more marshmallows (they are awesome if you have a kitchenaid/stand mixer to make them with: http://www.cookingforengineers.com/recipe/106/Marshmallows This site gives step by step instructions/pictures. I've made peppermint ones and regular ones! Alton Brown also has a good recipe.
I actually do a variation on those that you may want to try:
reese peanut butter cup cookies (basically peanut butter cookies with a mini peanut butter cup inside, you need mini-muffin trays to make these)
herhsey kiss cookies (sugar cookies rolled in sugar with a hershey kiss on top).
If you want more details on hw to make either, let me know. I am still working on finding the trays for the PB cup cookies...
I make an awesome Oatmeal Butterscotch Raisin Cookies. they dont look as amazing as choc chip cookies look... but once people taste them they are in love!!! haha
