OMG, there was a mouse in my bed last night!
As many of you know, I live in the middle of nowhere. We have livestock on our property which means we have hay stored in our barn (which is about 10 feet from our house). Anyway, the hay attracts field mice and IT NEVER FAILS, each winter a few field mice make their way into our house. It is usually a quick fix, we just put out rat poison and problem solved......no more mice. But for a few days each winter we have to put up with the mice in our house, until they have had a chance to eat the poison and die.
But holy fvck, I felt a tiny mouse run over my hand last night when I was sleeping. I don't think I have every jumped so high!! I didn't know what to do! I didn't know where the mouse was and I was afraid if I got up to turn on the light I would step on the mouse. So all I could do was take my pillow and hit the bed multiple times in hopes I scared off the mouse.
Needless to say my H got an earful this morning on why we need to move and get back to civilization......away from the mice.

Ooooh, yeah. I should get a cat. Then I can get rid of my H since he is allergic to cats. I think it would be less work to pick up after a cat than my H :P

My silly Lily is almost 4.
Ehh, yeah, I could been proactive and put the poison out once the first cold front came in a few weeks ago. But I don't like leaving the poison around the house if I don't have to. I typically like to wait until I see evidence of mice in the house.
One time my dog Lucky (who IS lucky BTW) ate a block of rat poison. Thankfully we caught him as he was munching on the last bit of the block and was able to get him to the vet. What scares me is the dog was able to get to the poison I thought I had hidden well. Apparently not! And with a baby in the house who is into everything, I have reservations about leaving the poison down unless it's absolutely necessary.
So far the poison has been down for two days and I am sure to inventory the blocks a few times a day. Once I know for sure the mice are out I will pull the blocks. And then I will wait for the mice to come back in. LOL. Kind of silly but I sleep better knowing there is one less thing the baby can get into

Can you put the poison outside, around the perimeter of the house? Will that help?
I just know I would lose my schit if I had a mouse in my house who wasn't asking for a cookie.
