Ever close a MSN or Hotmail account??

It's darn near IMPOSSIBLE to do.  For me anyway.  My MSN e-mail address got hacked a couple weeks ago and spammed my whole address book.  I just want to cancel the stupid account since I never use it but I practically have to write my name in blood and promise my first born to do it.

Has anyone successfully closed a MSN/Hotmail/Windows Live account before??

I have talked to someone every day either on the phone or through LiveChat and they all give me different answers and spin me around in circles with no plan of attack that actually works.  The lady at MSN technical support gave me a random third-party website to go to and said THEY could close my MSN account.  What???  MSN can't close an MSN account but some random website CAN? 

I am beyond frustrated. And I now REALLY dislike talking to people in India who just read answers off a script and don't really get what you're saying.  And the phone connection is piss-poor so they can't even hear me half the time.

I've been reading internet forums about this and the consensus is that your account is never 100% truly closed.  Great.

I had the same exact thing happen with my hotmail! It sucked. I tried closing it 3 different times, it still was sending out spam mail, so finally I just deleted all my contacts out of the address book and that seemed to work. I don't actually know if the account is closed, I highly doubt it, but I just stopped logging into it.

My hotmail account got spamed a couple years ago, so I just deleted everything and don't sign into it anymore.  I haven't had an issues that I know of since.  Gmail is much safer.

I still have a hotmail account I use for email lists, etc, but have grown increasingly annoyed at how much spam I have been getting from other people I know whose yahoo and hotmail accounts have been hacked.  How hard is it to have a safe email set up?  You would think msn/hotmail would be on top of things since they have been around forever.

Sorry Kiz, if you do find out let me know because I am tempted to close mine too.  That sucks that it's so hard to do.  How obnoxious!

i quit mine but it was years ago (6+) and i think it was pretty easy then. i switched to Gmail and never looked back. i've closed all my other emails besides my gmails and love how seamless everything is.

This exactly, except I closed my hotmail about 5 years ago.  I did everythign through the hotmail site.  I have no idea how I did it though.  Gmail is lovely
