AL Nestie visiting Nashville...

Hi!  We are looking for something to do during Fall Break (next week) and are thinking about visiting Nashville.  Hoping you all can help me out.  We have a 9 year old daughter and a 6 month old baby.  I found a great website showing all that Nashville has to offer and I think I've narrowed it down to the Zoo and the Adventure Science Center.  Would you recommend these places?  Are they both do-able with a baby?  How far from eachother are they and where would you suggest we get a hotel?  (I'm thinking we'll do the zoo one day, spend the night, and do the science center the next day so we aren't overdoing it with the baby.)  Also, what restaurants would you recommend?  We love trying new places that we don't have at home, but it can't be anywhere to fancy obviously.  Anything else I need to know to make our quick 2 day trip there better?  TIA!!!  I really appreciate your help.

Re: AL Nestie visiting Nashville...

  • One more thing...what's the gas situation there?  Will that cause problems for us?
  • I think the Zoo and adventure science center are fairly close.  Probably about 15 minutes from each other.  I can't recommend as last time I went to the Adventure Science Center it was the early 90's ..ouch.  And I've never been to the Zoo.  Also I don't have kids but my nephew loves the zoo.

I can try suggesting the rest.  Where are you driving from.  I'll assume 1-65.  You could try some hotels near Franklin, south of Nashville.  There is several business developments so I think there are some newer hotels/motels in that area.  There are tons of stores also in case you need to run around for something.  Hotels closer to the zoo and science center would be downtown and not sure what your price range is but most of them charge for parking as well as a higher room rate.

Restaurant recommendations...near the zoo there are two family friends places that I like.  If the weather cooperates I would go with Baja Burrito on Thompson lane.  If not or another choice is Calypso Cafe on Thompson.  Both are way yummy and I'm sure they have websites so you can plan ahead.

Depending on where you stay for hotels..Franklin has every imaginable chain restaurant but I would recommend Buca de Beppo if you haven't been.  It's not the best italian but a great theme restaurant. Garcia's is a great mexican place in franklin.

Downtown I would suggest Big River Grille or you can try Mellow Mushroom near Vandy.

    HTH.

  • Thank you very much for your help!
  • both are good options. We love the zoo. We have an annual memebership. We don't belong to adventure science although I'm considering it for the winter.  Both would be great for both ages. We take SD to the zoo all the time and she has just as much fun as her younger brothers.

I'm not sure if it is open yet, but the playground at the zoo is amazing (it was undergoing renovations).

  • PS depending where you are staying you might walk through the opryland hotel. it is so over the top with a river boat ride through it. My SD really liked seeing it and it is next to oprymills shopping which has the aquarium resturant. My kids liked the aquarium there. THe food is nothing to write home about the fish are awesome
  • Here's a great list of things to do with kids:

If you're in the Vandy area, I'd highly recommend Fido's for breakfast or lunch. ?It's totally kid friendly and really good food. ?And while you're there - get a Las Paletas (homemade Mexican popsicle)- ?soooo good.
