Wanting to make homemade Sugar Scrubs for Christmas gifts
Hello,
I'm not sure if this fits as part of the Green Living forum but hopefully it is! I'm wanting to make some natural homemade sugar scrubs as a fun Christmas gift for my friends and family, and to try for my personal use too ;-) lol. I was hoping to get different insights and ideas for recipes on this project of mine. I'm trying to find ingredients that don't have harsh chemicals or any persevatives (hints the natural part). Anyone have suggestions??? TIA!
P.S. I also wanna try making soap too, I read that the process can take a while to "cure" but I wanna try making it too in the future, any suggestions for this too would be great!
Re: Wanting to make homemade Sugar Scrubs for Christmas gifts
I've made some great sugar scrubs just mixing together organic sugar, virgin coconut oil and a few drops of essential oils. I just eyeballed the amounts until it was the consistency that I wanted. I found some cute tins and people loved them! Super easy, super fun!
I made this last week! It's awesome! I had to use A LOT more lemon juice though to get rid of the olive oil smell, but it works REALLY well!
I've been making peppermint vanilla salt scrub as gifts. I don't go by specific measurements when it comes to the salt/oil ratio, I just kinda throw stuff in until it looks right. Here's what I use:
Instead of grapeseed oil you can use unscented almond oil, sesame oil, or jojoba oil. You can use olive oil, but as mentioned by a previous poster, the scent is difficult to mask. You can either get a small bottle of vitamin E or just cut open and drain 2-3 vitamin E capsules.
If you're doing a bunch of 'em as gifts, get your sugar or sea salt from the bulk bins. You can find all of the supplies needed at Whole Foods, Sprouts, a local co-op, or something along those lines. I put the scrub into clear glass containers with a latch from Ikea (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40065867), put a ribbon around it, and it's ready to go as a gift!
Good luck!
mmmmm this one sounds great! I am going to try it. But I want to use sugar. have you tried it with sugar?? TIA!
Yep, sugar will definitely work!
