Christmas Eve dinner

There will be 10 adults, my DH's family, and I have decided on lasagna as the main course.  I am going to make my own garlic bread and crutons for the caesar salad.  I need an app/ side or dessert to bring the wow factor.  Any suggestions?  I don't usually do a side with lasagna but I guess since it's a holiday I feel like I should..Is that silly?   No asparagus suggestions.  TIA

It may not be that "wow"-ish, but what about sauteeing some yellow squash, zucchini, and onion?  That's my family's go-to side for pasta dishes, and it really doesn't take that much time or effort.  Just sautee some thin onion slices (usually half an onion to one yellow squash and one zucchini) in a little bit of olive oil, then add slices of yellow squash and zucchini and cook until the vegetables are almost translucent.

Oh darn, I just found this to post before I read "no asparagus". Anyway, it's a different little app that gets lots of attention.
