Question about BRU and returns

Are they really that difficult if you take something back without a receipt and only want a store credit?  I had registered for a monitor which I received.  Then a friend of mine got me another monitor that I didn't register for (she swears it was the one on my registry but it wasn't)  but didn't give me a gift receipt.  I want the one that I registered for because it's nicer.  I want to return the other one for a store credit.  She also got me this other thing that is a duplicate and I don't have a receipt for either of them.

Do you think they will return these things?   Everyone keeps telling me they are very difficult.

Re: Question about BRU and returns

  • I recently took a couple of things back without a reciept and it wasn't too much trouble. At first they told me that they couldn't do it but after talking to a manager, she made an exception for me and gave me store credit. It never hurts to try.
  • Okay yah.  I figured.  I mean I worked for Kids R Us for 3 years a long time ago and we would always return things for people and give store credit.

The Manager at my local BRU use to be my manager at KRU so hopefully I'll get a hook up.  LOL.

Not to mention, the 2 things I have without receipts equal close to $100.  I want to use that towards my stroller!

  • They can be very tough, I have seen it.  But if it was something on your registry, or something they currently carry in their store you shouldn't have too much trouble.  Good luck!
  • I returned a few duplicates, and at they never gave me a problem. They did only give me credit for the sale price tho. They didn't check if it was on my registry, so it shouldn't be a problem.
  • wow, my experience without a receipt was a nightmare!!!!! A FLIPPING NIGHTMARE!

Long story short, I ended up with 2 beddings for Ella. I tried to return one to BRU, figuring it shouldn't be an issue since it was on my registry but boy was I wrong! My Aunt didn't have a receipt so they were attempting to give me almost $90 less than what she paid in store credit. WTF! Instead of accepting this, I made them go through all of their store receipts and locate my Aunt's transaction....and then made them give the $349.00, which is how much she spent! And 20% off of my entire purchase for making sit in their stupid store for 2.5 hours!

    I hate BRU...

  • just be sure to do/try it soon. ?i had a bunch of things i ended up not needing, had receipts, and because it had been more than 90 days since they were originally purchased, they refused to take them back. ?not even for store credit. ?and they still had everything i was trying to return in stock. ?i was really annoyed.

    ?

alternatively, can you add them to your registry before you go? maybe that would work. ?and claim "pregnancy brain" or something if they point out that it doesn't show "fulfilled."

  • They really are huge A-holes when it comes to returning stuff. I thought my DH was going to throw down with the manager there once. If you make a big enough deal, especially since you still have an open registry, that is most helpful. But most definitely, do not wait to do this, take care of it ASAP. And why the hell can't people give gift receipts with gifts??? It's getting harder and harder these days to return things, so you'd think people would be more prone to think of it...
  • Since you know  the manager I think that will help.

I have heard them say, no receipt no credit or exchange.  I didn't know they were that strict.  My daughter took back a few things and had no gift receipt. They told her no.  It wasn't even opened.

  • I had good luck adding things to the registry after the fact and then exchanging them for store credit. Some stores are better then others. Make sure you also check off that you 'received it' so that they'll take it back. Good luck!

  • i would add it to your registry, and take the other one off if you can... tell them you got two of the same thing and neither was deducted.it worked for me on a couple of things.

also - it totally depends on who you get at the register... i have had them be totally leniant, and total a$$es.

  • We had no problems.  The girl at the register I could tell wanted to give me trouble but after I made it clear that there was no other options she didn't mess with me.  :)  And then I got my stroller out of it and it was pretty much an even trade.  YAY!
