Final paper...so stressed!

All that stands between me and my student teaching is a final paper in my Shakespeare class. We have a week to write a 10-page critical analysis paper on one of four given topics. None of the topics jumped out at me. Knowing that I had to get to work, I finally settled on a topic and came up with an idea. I'm 2 pages in and I just feel like it's not a great paper already. Ughhh! I'm totally stressing out. If I don't get a C on this paper, I don't student teach. Period.

Shakespeare has been the hardest class of my undergraduate career. I'm a good student, I've never been in this spot before. I just don't know what to do :( Vibes that I get a good grade on this paper, please!! Thanks for letting me vent ladies.

  • :(   Good luck with your paper!! I know how hard it is, especially being this close to the end of the semester, break, and student teaching! You can do it though!! :D Maybe write a little at a time and take breaks in between to refresh your mind as you write?  Good luck!!!

  • Awww, not fun!! I'm sorry :(  I agree with the PP, though.  Maybe try to write little sections at a time instead of tearing your hair out trying to force write it.  You can do it, and once it over you will feel great!!

Just curious, what  question did you choose to write about?  I have a minor in English, maybe there is a small chance I could offer suggestions if you run out of ideas??

  • Best of luck! I am having a tough time with a final paper for my graduate program. I have a feeling that it is more about things I'd rather be doing than the topic I have to write about. Hope you find a rhythm and get it done quickly!

  • Thanks for the encouragement, ladies! I've got until Thursday to finish, so I'm trying to do 2 pages a day. At the same time, though, the sooner I finish, the sooner I don't have to think about it any longer!
  • Good luck!  And be sure to celebrate when you are done!  That will give you something to look forward to!

Great idea! I think I will plan to go Christmas shopping after I turn my paper in!

  • I just finished a 20 page paper, on adolescents transitioning into adulthood, for one of my Occupational Therapy classes... I didn't get it done until the night before.  I was stressin big time, but then hubby made me some hot cocoa, unplug the internet, and put in one of my CD's (no words) and I cranked out 16 pages in one night!  Take a break every now and then, but only 5 - 10 minutes so you can stay in the writing mood (if there is such a thing)
  • First of all, best of luck! I am in a very similar situation - I am trying to finish up my 30 page paper for the History of Higher Education. There are 2 things that have gotten me up to page 16 (so far) without pulling my hair out.

    1) take a break about every hour. Walk around the block, play a game of solitare, soemthing that ISN'T the paper. Every 5-6 hours take 45minutes - 1 hour and do soemthing fun and relaxing. For me, that's Xbox or hanging out with DH (if he's home/awake).

    2) Split the paper into chunks. I am not an "outline" person, but if I hadn't made one, I would have just rambled on throughout this paper. You don't have to make it detailed just make a list of the "high points" you want to hit while you are writing. Think of it as your mapquest directions to the end of the tunnel!

Know that a lot of us are in this boat, rowing with you! Best of luck, and I am sure you will do brilliantly!! :)
