washer recs

I need a new washer--top loading.  Any models/brands/features that you like or don't like?

Did you like the store you bought it from?  Delivery and repair policies?

Re: washer recs

  • I need to buy one in the next month so I hope we get some good advice! Great question.
  • I was here raving about our new W/D less than a year ago, but definitely not now. We have a Kenmore Elite HE3T set. About 3 months ago the washer would flash two error codes about every 5th load. I thought I was using too much HE detergent, so I used A LOT less. The codes started flashing more often and finally got to the point where I couldn't finish a load of laundry because it would stop and flash the codes.

I finally called the Sears repair people out ($129 to have them come out and look and labor, but no parts) and then found out the pressure switch was bad and it was going to have to be replaced. Less than a year after buying them. All in all we spent $300 the other day to get the washer fixed.

The service was horrible. I picked a time frame (8am-12pm) to have them come and he didn't show up until 4pm. I had to call (at 2pm) to have the repairman call me at 3 and tell me he was running late. Yeah, you think?

Now that it's fixed the washer is great. I love having a front loader and I love having all the options ours has, but if we had to do it over again I probably would have gotten LGs from Lowes.

    Sorry this got so long!

  • Whirlpool Cabrio. It is a top-loader, but with some of the great features of the front loading machines. I work at Leon's furniture (which is a Canadian chain) and so obviously I buy all of my stuff there, and definitely recommend them. If you aren't from Canada, I cannot really help you with store recommendations, but I do suggest getting a warranty because of all of the moving parts in these machines.

I have the Cabrio W/D and love them. Washer is top loader but does not have center agitator.  The tub is huge and I can easily do double loads and even wash king size comforters.  We bought from Lowes, who price matched for us. I believe removal of old W/D and delivery were included. I also recommend warranty. We have had no issues with either W/D but it is nice to know we have warranty if something does go wrong.

  • I would NOT purchase any applicance ever again from HHGregg, a regional big box store.

    Long story short:

Several phone calls after the sale from HHGregg about 'a problem' only to find when I called back no one knew what the problem was because the post-it note the problem was written on was missing. ?!?!?

4 weeks for our refrig. to arrived turned into 9 weeks.

Our 'delivery to be scheduled' turned into NO schedule just a random  a message on our VM announcing "we will be there in 20 mins. to deliv. your refrig."   No one had bothered to call us to let us know that the refrig. had finially turned up after 9 weeks!!

It was a classic, left hand does not know what the right hand is doing,
