moms of 2 same -sex lo's

silly christmas question-

how do you seperate the gifts on christmas morning? just put one pile of gifts for one kid on one side and the other pile on the other side? sharing toys in the middle? have you ever had any fighting over toys? i dont know what to anticipate this year!

i have 2 sisters and a brother and i dont recall ever having any crazy on christmas morning. our girfts were separated - a pile for each of us, but i cant remember what happened when we were really little.

Re: moms of 2 same -sex lo's

  • I grew up in a family of 3 girls.  The way my parents did it was each one of us had our own special wrapping paper, different from all the other gifts, and our stockings were laid out in front of our pile.  Gifts that were joint gifts were wrapped with 1/2 and 1/2. or in 3rds, so we knew we were sharing it.  It always worked out really well that way, and I plan to carry on the same tradition with my boys when they are old enough.  :0)
  • kelly that is a really good idea! in fact i have not done any wrapping yet for them , so i think i will do that. the big toys for each and the big ones to share are giving me a panic attack. i picture each wanting what the other has for some reason? maybe its the recent "fights" over toys lately.

  • My mom did something similar to Kelly's mom...different paper for me & my sister...however...Santa didn't wrap so we each had a side of the tree...with our stocking laying on the floor in front top let us know which side was whose. Always worked out well.

    Good Luck!

I will be there in a few years with my two boys also!

  • Santa didn't wrap as I was growing up and he still doesn't for Ella so my mom would put my sister's stuff and my stuff in separate areas with joint gifts in the middle

  • Santa didn't wrap for us growing up, we each had a wing chair in the living room that would have our individual presents.  And then joint presents were usually set up on the dining room table.  Thinking back I'm actually pretty impressed with how much work my parents did on Christmas Eve - no wonder they were always tired Christmas morning LOL!!!

Even though I have two different sexes, Layne will guaranteed want some of Nolan's and vice versa - it's the stage we're at.  So i think I will do the different colored wrapping paper.  Great idea!!

  • Well, my girls are very different ages (14 year difference), so I will never have to worry about them being jealous of each others' presents :)  BUT.. ditto what Amy said about the two little ones (DS and DD2) probably being interested in the same gifts.  I bought 3 different colored wrapping papers with Santas on them, and will just wrap each kids' presents in a different paper.
  • Santa always wrapped, but put my presents on one chair, and my sister's on another chair, and anything that was for both of us was in the middle of the room.

  • Growing up: Aside from our stockings, our gifts were mixed under the tree. My mom handed us gifts to open. There was never a free-for-all. Everything was wrapped (including  items in our stockings). Santa had a different wrapping paper than my parents.

Now: I do it the same as my mom. I know what's there. And since I don't let Shannon just have at her gifts, it's not an issue... despite having a boy and a girl :)

  • Santa wraps in our house.  We just put their presents on opposite sides of the Christmas tree.  IF they have have a joint gift, it is unwrapped and put in the middle or somewhere else in the room.  Last year they had a dollhouse that we put separate and a train table had to be downstairs in the playroom.

I like the idea of using a special wrapping paper for each girl.  The only downside is that I love using a variety of paper... this year was a Disney and Pooh theme of wrapping paper....  Thank you Dollar Tree!
