Restaurant & Spa recs, please

Hey gals....Austin Nestie here.

I'm heading up to StL later this month for a conference (at the Ritz in Clayton).  We're on our own for dinner so I'm looking for a couple restaurant recs.

I'm also thinking about scheduling a massage/half spa day for the morning I leave.  I know the Ritz will offer massages, but is it worth it?  Is there another spa you would recommend?

Thanks a bunch!!

Re: Restaurant & Spa recs, please

  • As far as a spa goes, I'd recommend The Face & The Body in Brentwood.  It's not far from Clayton, probably a little less expensive than the Ritz.  I also really like Ginger Bay Salon & Spa.  It's in Kirkwood, which is a little further from Clayton, but still not too far (only 15 minutes away or so).

As far as restaurants go, what are you looking for?  St. Louis has GREAT restaurants.  Do you want to stay in the Clayton area, or are you willing to explore?  Do you want super casual or a little more formal?  What kind of price range?  Give us a little more info, and we'll give you some great recommendations.

Since I'll be on per diem, I'd like to keep the meals under $40/person.  Something "nice" but leaning towards casual.  Since we'll have long days at the conference, I'm sure we'll just be looking for a nice, relaxing meal.  I don't feel obligated to stay in Clayton, but don't want to drive too far.....probably no more than 20-30 minutes away?

Anyways...I hope this helps.  And thanks for the spa recs!!!

J Bucks is in Clayton and is really good.

  • Reasonably priced places to try in Clayton: J. Buck's (a bit of everything), BARCelona (tapas), I Fratellini (Italian), Barrister's (bar food), CJ Mugg's (bar food), ZuZu's (Mexican)

Some not too far out of Clayton:  Seamus McDaniel's (try the burgers), Cunetto's (Italian), Favazza's (Italian), Modesto (tapas), Schlafly Bottleworks (kind of "upscale" American cuisine--there are two locations, both within 20 minutes of Clayton), Pueblo Solis (Mexican), Arcelia's (Mexican)

I think with all of those places, you can get out for under $20/person for a meal (some quite a bit less than that).  For places closer to the $40 range, you can really eat almost anywhere in St. Louis.  My favorites:  1111 Mississippi, Niche, Araka (in Clayton), Lorenzo's (Italian), Vin de Set.

If you go to www.saucemagazine.com, you can do a restaurant search and get reviews, pricing, directions, etc. on all these places.  Happy eating!
