I fell yesterday

HARD!  I was helping Brian bring the tree into house and we went in the sliding glass doors on our deck.  There must be some kind of algae on the wood and with the rain it was super slick. My feet went out from under me so quickly I didn't have time to catch myself.  I fell on my side, bruised my hip pretty badly and fell on top of my arm.  When I got up, I felt a sharp pain in my pelvis on the opposite side of where I fell but after some rest it dulled.  Now today I am achy all over, but I can walk just fine leading me to believe nothing is broken.

The pain in my pelvis has occurred again but it's definitely not constant.  I wouldn't normally see the need to go to the doctor or anything, but since we've started TTC, I'm nervous that maybe I have some kind of hairline fracture in my pelvis that would lead to much bigger problems later.  What would you do?  If I am pregnant (won't know for another week) I'm guessing they wouldn't want to do an xray, especially in that area.  Do I just wait it out or call someone?  What do you think?

Re: I fell yesterday

  • Oh no! I hope you feel better soon!  If it were me, I would wait a day or two and see how it feels.  (however, I would bet I'm in the minority here) Are you swollen at all? I don't think there's much they can do for a broken pelvis unless it's bad enough to need surgery, which I would assume it's not if you're mobile.

It took 5 failed IUIs and a failed IVF, but our FET worked!

  • I would wait it out. Xrays are pretty dangerous in the earliest stages of pregnancy especially since it would be a direct xray beam to your pelvis.  I am going to say its probably not broken but just a bone bruise (which still hurts like hell!! ) Wait it out a few days, and see if you feel any better.
  • That bone is one of the hardest in the body. Not saying it can't be broken, but it takes A LOT to break it! I'd guess it's a bone bruise, too. Man those hurt!

That being said, I'd hold off a few days before calling the doctor about it. Ice it (just like after childbirth) and hopefully you'll be feeling better in a couple of days. And be careful outside on your deck!
