help! where to live?

ladies,

i'm a recent transplant from NY and i have no idea where i should live. :)

i'm currently working in el segundo, and i don't want to be too far of a drive. i've checked out apartments in marina del rey, playa del rey, and manhattan beach. i'm kind of leaning towards a full service apartment (i want my own washer/dryer!) but i'd like it to be near fun places to hang out and meet people. it's going to be just me for awhile and i'd like to make friends. :)

any suggestions would be beyond appreciated!! thanks!

  • An alternative to Manhattan Beach would be Culver City. I really love it here and it is not far from El Segundo. It's a newly hip part of town with great restaurants and bars.

Funny enough, I am about to rent out a cute unit in a duplex right in the heart of it all. It's the cutest place you'll ever see in that part of town.
  • I agree with Pepper. My husband works in Culver City and it's super cute, now.

If you want to be even close to the beach, Santa Monica would be the most popular option - they have great rent control, lots of shopping, lots of restaurants, etc.

  • I grew up in El Segundo so that would be my first choice, but it's more of a family town as opposed to a happening place. I've also lived in westchester and am in culver city now. Downtown culver city has really changed a lot over the years and has turned into a pretty fun spot.

  • I grew up in Culver City and now live in El Segundo. If I were single again, I would live in Santa Monica for sure. If you want to go south, maybe you could try Hermosa.

  • Venice and Santa Monica are kind of the more "happening" areas... more clubs, trendy places, ecclectic places... the boardwalk, Abbot Kinney, etc....

El Segundo, Redondo, Manhattan Beach, all cool places as well. My suggestion, drive around and see what you like, check out and see what kind of happening places/events there are (like First Friday on Abbot Kinney).... GL!
