I am on a committee at work called purpose|tomorrow. It's for sustainability, reducing carbon footprint, etc. It has people from all divisions on it and we meet every other week (which is way too much, but anywho...). The secretary has to set the place for the meeting every time, but the new guy has been waiting until the last minute so guess what, this is the FOURTH meeting in a row that it's not at my building, even though well over half the people are from my building.
Oh yeah, and it's 8 degrees here, aka motherhumping cold!! Did I tell you that I HATE WINTER?!?! OMG, I am fuming that I have to get in my car and drive down the road to this other building because other people aren't organized enough to get something on the calendar in advance! And one last thing, I'm not on this committee by choice. I absolutely dread going to these meetings or doing anything with it because of how it's run. And I have no desire to be in charge of it because my plate is too full. So I have to suffer through this every other week...ugh!
And one last, last thing, I've been doing this since Sept 2009 when it was only supposed to be for a year and there is no end in sight. OH EM GEE!!!
OK, that's all. Thank you for listening.
Re: Pity party! I hope you will all join me!
I'm sorry you have to brave the blistering cold and that they can't get their act together.
But kudos to you for being on a committee that makes a difference in the world.
Can you volunteer to plan the meetings from now on? That way they will always be planned ahead of time and they will be in your building.
Committees suck.
That's all I have to say about that.
Thanks for the kudos, but I so don't deserve them. I am just so-o-o busy and don't have time to devote to this, so it becomes a burden.
And no, I can't schedule the meetings. This committee is "official" with a charter and we vote for the President and Secretary. Each role has specific responsibilities and I'm not in either of those roles, so I don't have any control over scheduling the meetings.
I agree
Ditto!
Amen to this!!! They should not make you run around in the cold or be on a committee that you aren't wanting to be in geesh! Hugs! Have one of those yummy cookies you have stashed and think warm happy thoughts!!!
I concur Kelly, Katy, & Pam!
The good news is that I ended up NOT having to go to the meeting because my boss needed me to stay here to help her instead. She hardly ever lets me out of those meetings, so whew!
As far as getting off the committee goes, I'm hoping to be phased out by end of Q2 next year, but we'll see how that goes.
