Med School Marching Orders
We got 'em! Long story short, the people in Janesville were not responding to the school and we wouldn't have been able to get there until at least April. And I'm freaking not living with my parents until April. That would be three quarters of a year here, hellz no.
So we're going to Georgia. Decatur, Georgia from January 17th thru August something. Then from August something to November 4th we'll be in Augusta, GA. We wanted to go to GA in the first place! The rent, I hear, is pretty affordable.
I'm super excited. Best part is H says that we should be able to hit up DIsney one more time on our annual passes! I'm not going to hold my breath and get my hopes but, but I love Disney and I've been wanting to go back but we couldn't afford it. But since it will be a short seven hour drive, we can maybe do it for a couple days.

Yay!! That's awesome! Drink lots of sweet tea for me, please. And enjoy winter without snow! Does this mean you guys will never be in WI? And do you have any idea what's after GA?

Yes, it means we'll never go to WI like we thought we would. Just goes to show it's true: when you go to Ross you never have a solid plan. We thought for sure it would WI, and then all of a sudden it wasn't.
We don't know what's after GA. They could only schedule through November, I guess that's as far as their calendar went, so there will be more scheduling when the time comes. It's two years total for rotations. I think we can *probably* do them all in GA, though. But like I said, it's Ross University, so who knows.
Really, I'm most excited about creating a wish list on Ikea's website right now. Hahaha...

Not having a solid plan would drive me batty, but it looks like it's working out for you! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can stay in GA for a while, just to put down some roots.
Um, and IKEA - OMG! It is GREAT! Almost everything in our house was bought at Ikea. And try the Swedish Meatballs! They're almost as good as the real thing - even my grandpa (the KING of Swedish Meatballs) thought so!

YAY YAY YAY! I'll have a GA neighbor! Decatur is a really nice place, it's revitalizing. There are some sketchy parts but for the most part, everything you will ever need in GA will be in or near Decatur.
And as far as affordable rent goes, I'm not sure how affordable Decatur is, but Augusta will blow your mind. I'm in Athens (another small GA town, except we have UGA here) and our house was soooooo cheap!

ahem, to clear up some confusion: there is snow in GA. It flurried yesterday (hahahaha *rolls eyes*)
Yeah, everyone freaked out and they closed 6 or so school districts.
I don't know. I'd like too, but DH loves to go west through KY and TN, but I don't know what route he wants to go this time. I have a friend in DC who wants us to stop by too, lol. Meanwhile, we've got to get their ASAP so we can try to set up the apartment and buy furniture and food before H has to start.

We have a good friend in Marietta who told us to look for apts in the southern part of Decatur and to look around the Ponce De Leon street. Does that sound about right to you? We've called like three places and his friend is going to scope them out for us and let us know what he thinks.
Turns out to not be as affordable as I thought. $800/mo for 705 square feet. That seems small. And I'm worried about Mittens having enough space to run around, but H doesn't want to spring for a two-bedroom. Which I get, but we could have used that space as an office/guest room for family.

That sounds about right for Decatur - keep in mind when I moved down here I moved from MD (near DC) and we paid $1250/mo for 650 SF. Augusta will be much cheaper. In Athens it's about $450-500/month for that much apartment. The fact that Decatur is becoming a popular area to live is why it's that pricey. I've also heard that the south part of Decatur is nicer (North Decatur is kinda shady) You'll pay more for the nicer part also, but most apartments down this way have good amenities (if they're with a complex, not an individual owner).
Yes, his friend told us south was better than north. The apartment complexes do have pretty good amenities - pools, fitness centers, laundry hookups and laundry rooms. They look nice from what little I've seen so far. I was hoping we could rent a house, but we can't. Apartment living sucks.
