Silver

I know there is a really cool way to clean silver, and I think it starts with putting aluminum foil in your sink, and after that I'm lost.

Can anyone help me out with this?

THANKS!

Re: Silver

  • Maybe you'll have better luck but the foil trick didn't work for me. I was trying to do some pretty intricate jewelry/silverware. Unfortunately the other options are much more labor intensive. There are paste polishes... as well as some "magic cloth" (I have one but can't think of the actual name) that is red and yellow... that would be my suggestion if the aluminum foil thing doesn't work.
  • I have heard of people using toothpaste on silver. It has to be the regular paste though, not a gel (something with baking soda I think).
  • I did the aluminum thing with some silverplate flatware I got at a yard sale.  The first try I used hot water from the sink and it worked ok.  Next time I tried it, I boiled water in a kettle and poured it on the silver with about a tablespoon each of salt and baking soda.  It worked great!

  • This is my favorite:

It is a spray polish. It's great for intricate pieces and easier to use than the cream.
