How can I put this gift together?

SIL has a bf who has a couple kids from a past marriage and even though we don't get to see them that often, we pretty much consider them a part of the family. I asked SIL any ideas for them and she told me when his kids do come and stay that they love to color, draw etc. She said something like markers, crayons and paper would be the best gift!

I don't want to spend too much on these gifts since we are on a budget so this idea sounds great to me! But, how can I put this gift together? I plan on buying each of them a drawing pad, markers, crayons...anything else you ladies think will go great with this? How can I put this gift together? Should I get a basket and put it all in there? I kinda like that idea but getting a basket for each of them is another expense towards their gift and I am trying to keep it low.

WDYT?

  • Maybe go to your local $ Store and pick up these items.  Make a large basket (something that can be used to store the stuff in when not in use) and gift it to them all.  Maybe take something maybe with their name on it (like a pen or similar) and give them that individually.

Oooh I like the idea of a large basket! I also like the pen personalization, great idea! Thanks so much!

  • You can go to a craft store and get little canvas totes that you can personalize for each of them and it will also keep their stuff organized. I hate to share a gift when I was a kid.

I would put in watercolor paints, markers, colored pencils, why not add bubbles and play do. You can make the dough for them.

  • You could also decorate a small size rubbermaid container for each child.  They are only like $2-3 each.  That's how I store all of my DD's craft supplies.

I like this idea of decorating a rubbermaid container to store the stuff in. We are also doing something very similar for SS. He loves drawing and coloring. Some things you could put in there

Water color paints and paint brushes
    Crayons, Markers, Colored Pencils
    Coloring book
    glitter glue pens
    construction paper

  • what would probably be good is to get some of the plastic containers with the lids that snap on.  then either you can draw their names on with sharpies in their favorite colors, or you can let them do it.  also it will be a good thing for them to use for their things when they travel back and forth, between their mom and dad's and if it's a lengthy trip, it will provide a surface for them to color on while in the car.

  • Depending on the age of the kids, color wonder markers and drawing pads are a good choice because they only color on the special paper, not siblings, walls or carseats.  I love the tote and canvas bag ideas too.
  • Michael's has little lap desks that are plastic and have 2 side pockets, you can pesonalize the top and put coloring books and supplies on the sides, they also have just a plactic tote with 2 sides to it, that you can also personalize with their names (I used a silver Sharpie for my kids) and you can give them stickers too and then they can personalize it themselves.

  • Plastic bins maybe? That way they have a place to store everything you get them - and they're usually a dollar or two.  You can add stickers, water colors, stencils... look in the art aisle at the dollar store for that stuff - but make sure to get crayola markers and crayons... the other brands dry out/ are waxy and don't last.
