Washing Machine

Ok, the other day I was washing clothes and when my washing machine got to the final spin cycle it made this obnoxious, screeching noise.  Very VERY loud.  When I turned it off, it slowly stopped as the tub quit spinning.  Well, last night I decided to try it again and no noise!  Has anyone had this happen to them and what was the problem?

Re: Washing Machine

  • how old is your machine? and is it a top loader? were you washing a particularly heavy or very small load? In my experience weight has a lot to do with how my machine reacts. I have never heard a VERY loud screeching noise.... but a loud, kind of whining/screeching when I push the capacity to the limit....
  • It had my H's carhartt pants and shirts in there.  So we figured it was probably because of the weight but we took that load out and H started a small second load and it did the same thing?

The machine is about 3 years old and its a top loader.

  • If it is happening intermittently or with no common thread (super sized loads, etc) I have no idea! Call a repairman and ask if he has heard of this? Warning: their fees are sometimes OUTRAGEOUS to "diagnose" a problem... but a good company will tell you over the phone if they have heard of this.
