Planning 40th Birthday Party

Hi all,

One of my best friends is celebrating her 40th birthday in February and her family is flying in from all over the country. They have asked me to plan ... and I'm not really good at this sort of thing, so need your help.

She wants to do something with everyone's kids (they range in age from 0-8) and then something with just the adults. We like to drink, but are past the age of clubbing/getting totally wasted.

So ... any ideas for good venues in the greater Phoenix area? We live in central Phoenix, so everywhere is driveable.

TIA!

Re: Planning 40th Birthday Party

  • I'm not sure if you meant two different events and if adults will attend the kids one but how about a dinner out with the adults (nominate two adults or hire a babysitter to watch all the kids at someone's house with a pizza party and rented movies).

Then the next day everyone can get together at a park with a great playground for a barbeque, kids and adults.  This way any nice restaurant will do for a nice adult evening as long as it has a large private room.

Alternatively you can do one of those places with games but that kind of kills it for the adults ("Mom! I need more quarters!" "Dad, Timmy is hogging the motorcycle game!!!!") and isn't very elegant for the adults.

  • how fun!!! for the kiddos i would totally recommend amazing jakes in mesa. they offer a pizza buffet menu, what kid doesnt like pizza and lots of fun rides including mini golf, climbing walls, go karts, bowling and laser tag too. not only would the kids have fun but the adults totally could too!! another super fun kid friendly choice would be jump street in glendale...this might be better for the older kids. they offer wall to wall trampolines!!! dodgeball and a foam pit!!! there is also the choice of great skate.

as for the adults, i totally would pick lucky strike in downtown phx, they recently opened. its has an awesome vibe, good fun, and yummy drinks. bowling + good food + drinks + awesome dj = hella good time!!! you could also head down to westgate and have a blast at shouthouse, unlike the piano bar on mill - this place is a bit more upscale and caters to the non-college crowd. hope that helps!! let us know what you decide to do!!

  • Great ideas -- thank you! I'll definitely let you know what we decide.

    Thanks again!!
