I just got off the phone w/ my mom, my step dad was on a plane from SC to Houston. Before he got on the plane he bought a chicken sandwhich & saved it to eat on the plane....after he eats it he starts feeling bad & goes to the restroom. He passes out. They couldn't wake him up for over 5 minutes......they diverted the plane to Atlanta for an emergency landing. Had an ambulance take him from the runway to a hospital.
He calls my mom from the ambulance & can barely tell her what is going on but they keep breaking up. Needless to say my mom was freaking out...she finally hears from him again when he gets to the hospital & has a nurse talk to her. So now she knows what hospital he is at and everything.
They think it is really really severe food poisoning but they aren't sure. They are keeping him until they know for sure what happened. But he does seem to be improving as time goes on.
Please keep them in your thoughts, he's all alone in a city where he has no one and is very sick and my mom is helpless to do anything about it b/c she has my 5 yr old sister with her. They (mom & Stepdad) have to be at court tomorrow for one of my stepdad's sons tomorrow morning (long and a totally different story) so she has to stay in town for that as well. Plus the hassle of trying to get him a new flight home and possibly a hotel room for the night when they aren't sure if he'll need it or not...its just a horrible situation.
**I just heard from my mom and Russ was released from the hospital. He is heading to a hotel and is flying out in the morning back to Houston. She doesn't know the official diagnosis yet b/c his phone was dying and he just wanted to let her know that he was released. However, she said that the last time he talked to him in the hospital that they think it was food poisoning and it was exasperated (sp?) by the altitude. Apparently while he was passed out he was puking everywhere (sorry TMI) so the flight attendants were really freaking out.
Thanks again for all the thoughts and prayers. You guys are the best
Re: UPDATED: T&Ps for My Mom & Stepdad
Wow. T&P for you and your family. I hope that it doesn't turn out to be anything worse. That's really horrible. I can't imagine being in the hospital and away from my family.
Hope he gets home soon.
Poor him... being away from everyone sucks.
T&P for your family!
