Anyone here with Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Hey ladies...long time no post. I hope everyone is doing well. I see all the new babies coming your way. That is awesome.

I am hoping someone here will have an opinion on this. I feel like I am falling apart and it is so depressing. I am 39 and feel like 80 :(Sad

Anyway, I have been having all kinds of joint issues lately. First I had severe bursitis in my hip, I was on 2 doses of steroids, 90 days of anti inflammatories and 1 month of physical therapy which included ultrasound and elec stim. After all of this it still hurts or next step is a steroid injection into the hip.

Then 3 weeks ago the back of my knee started hurting and swelled up. The ortho dr. thinks it is either a cyst, tendonitis or torn cartlidge. I had an MRI done on Wed.

The last few days my toes have hurt and are numb, and my back is hurting. Except for the back ache all of this is on the left side of my body.

A co-worker of mine who has RA mentioned this is how hers started and suggested I get tested for it. My PCP did order some test which I also had on Wed, just waiting on the results of this and the MRI.

Does anyone here have RA or know someone that does. It is really effecting my everyday life and I am starting to get depressed about it. I work and then go home and lay on the sofa all night with a heating pad. Those who know me know this is torture for me. I am always doing something. The holdiay are here and i cant even get out and shop for more than 30 min without being in agony.

I am sorry to not come around for so long and then just come and whine.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season!!

Re: Anyone here with Rheumatoid Arthritis?

  • I have problems with my joints as well.  Do you know if they ordered an RA screen on blood work?  Mine came back negative for RA,but my SED Rate was high.  There is a strong history of RA in my family and I have symptoms but all my tests came back negative.  Because my SED rate was high my MD offered to send me to rheumatology but I did not take her up on the offer right now.

I hope you get the answers you are looking for soon!

  • Thank you Kelcat. My PCP did run a RA factor screen, sed rate and cbc I know for sure. They are closed today so I will probably hear something Monday.
  • Yikes Mindy!  That sounds painful!  I hope you find some answers soon!

As for who has RA, I know Blossom does.  Hopefully she will chime in and answer some of your questions.

  • I don't have any words of wisdom, but I am sorry you are in so much pain, Mindy.  You know you can always back here any time and whine, b!itch, AW- whatever you need or want.  We're not fairweather interwebs friends!  Wink

  • My mom was recently diagnosed with RA and Lupus. It took longer to diagnose the lupus, but they started her immediately on treatment for the RA. She takes prednisone and she says that it has greatly improved her condition. The only downside to the steroid is weight gain. She has changed her diet tremendously, eating things more high in fiber.
  • Mindy, my MIL and my female boss (who is super close to your age) both have RA.  If you would like to talk to either of them, send me a FB message.  They would both be happy to give you any direction possible, or a doc. referral.

  • Hey, Mindy. I have RA and was diagnosed at 21. It has been rough on me but I have had it under control with the right medications. This pregnancy has been especially hard because I have had to go off of everything except for prednisone. My RA may be in remission, or the prednisone may be doing a really good job...I am not sure. It sounds like what you are dealing with could be RA. Luckily there are antibodies in your blood that can show up on a test. Sometimes people do not test positive for RA but still have all the symptoms. Any idea when you will get the results?

Cold weather is supposed to make RA really bad, that could be why you are in so much pain now. I have seen great results from my meds, but unfortunately I will be on them for the rest of my life. There are some "natural" methods such as changing your diet or accupuncture. Neither of those helped me very much...but I wish you the best! Let us know how it goes. And feel free to message me any questions on here or facebook.

  • Thank you everyone! Bloosom I will hopefully get the blood results on Monday and I follow up with the Ortho on Wed to get the results of the MRI. The cold has really been an issue, I never take meds and actually had to call the ortho dr and ask for something. He gave me tramadol which works great but makes me so sleepy. I have spent tons of time with the heating pad which helps a bit. Again thank you all,
