Clicky Poll: Ugly Christmas Sweater Parties?

Re: Clicky Poll: Ugly Christmas Sweater Parties?

  • I've never been to one, but I think they look fun. Friends of mine have gone before and say it's just a Christmas party that you don't have to worry about getting all dressed up for.
  • Yes, but it was about 5 years ago. At the time it was novel, now it seems a little overdone.
  • At my last workplace, they have done an office-wide ugly sweater party/day for a few years now.  It's a doctors' office, so I can only wonder what the patients think...
  • I went to one a couple years ago and it was fun.  It was a nice change from the kind of Uptight corporate christmas parties I have been too.

The only thing I didn't like is that H and I actually had to purchase the god awful sweaters.... it was kinda a waist of money.... and I don't really like buying things that I will only wear once.  We ended up donating them after the party.

glove slap. I don't take crap.
  • I've never even heard about them before seeing people talk about them here on TN.  Maybe it's an American thing? lol.

  • I have never been to one, but they're holding an Ugly Sweater Contest at my workplace on Wednesday. It sounds like fun but I'm just going to watch. It's the first year for it, so it should be interesting!
  • The teachers at DS's old school did one on the last day before the holiday. Nobody rocks ugly sweaters like a male 2nd grade teacher wearing his retired mom's sweater.
  • Yes -- our friends have had two. They were a blast since people really got into the theme. I found a sweater with about 2 pounds of sequins on it at a second hand store. We keep them in the attic just in case we need to break them out. The hosts gave away a "trophy" for the ugliest sweater each year. It makes the party more laid back.
  • I haven't been to one but would LOVE to!  It sounds like a lot of fun.

  • Yes, last Friday night for my MOPS club. I didn't have one so I used a reindeer craft my kindergarten students made last year for there parents' and taped it to a white sweater i already had. I added stick on bows and won a prize for most creative. It was very low key and fun - just  bunch of ladies hanging out away from the kids on a Friday night. It was hilarious and I had a great time!

  • I have a aunt that does them every year. They do a prize for the worst! But this year I went to a "white elephant party" that was a blast. Everyone brings a gag gift and then you figure out who brought it and who had the best one!

  • We had one last night for our small group (church) Christmas Party along with a "dirty santa" game and potluck. It was hilarious!!! It makes it that much more festive. It's something the husbands look forward to every year! They try to see who can come up with the most ridiculous sweater!

  • So overdone. Not even funny, cute, ironic, interesting anymore. Just plain unoriginal, insipid, expected, and boring. They are a 2010 version of a 1970 fondue party.
