anyone have a yogurt maker?
Re: anyone have a yogurt maker?
annabelle, can you elaborate? How warm do you get the oven, and do you turn it off once you put the yogurt in and just leave the light on? H loves to make yogurt but we both hate how much energy it can use to do it other ways.
I know you can do it without a machine but I'd really prefer to use a machine. I've read about using coolers and hot towels, the oven, etc and would rather the safety of a machine that regulates the temperature.
here is more info about using the oven dramageek - http://foodthatnourishes.blogspot.com/2008/06/making-yogurt-how-to-make-yogurt-at.html
I totally understand, however I really do like the yogotherm http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00014F1KO since it is easy to regulate the consistency once it's done (just strain if you need it thicker). If you do go the electric route, I suggest one that doesn't have the individual jars for that reason.
I also am happy with my yogotherm.
You can also do it in crock pot or slow cooker, which gives you a consistent temperature in a closed environment.
