WTF- vent

We hosted my ILs for Christmas dinner yesterday because SIL #1 and her family will be away for the holidays (Cuba)  Start time was 3pm dinner to be served at 5.

MIL and SIL #2 show up at 4, BIL and neice #2 show up with an unannounced friend of neice #2's at 4:30, SIL #1 and Neice #1 will be late becasue N#1 has dance classes until late (never mentioned int he 3 times I spoke to SIL#1 this week or when Andy called them yesterday morning warning them that all 3 of us were sick)

They showed up at 6:15.

I cooked a turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, broccoli au gratin, corn and gravy for these foffers while sick, pregnant and caring for a sick 2 year old who only wants her mommy.   THE LEAST YOU CAN DO IS SHOW UP ON TIME.

This is SO unlike any of them that i won't make a big deal about it, but holy crap was I mad yesterday.

  • Ugh. I think I would have backed out if I were you.

  • I seriously thought about it, but FIL passed away aroun this time last year and they won't be together on Christmas, i couldn't take this "togetherness" away from them.

it's probably my own fault for building this diiner's importance up in my own head.   not every family bonds over mass amounts of food like mine does.

Mine does too and I would have felt slighted in that situation I'm sure, but being sick and stressed makes me whimsy and sensitive.

  • Why do people not understand the importance of timing with a meal such as that?  I wouldn't mind the extra body as much as the lateness.  Dinner is hot at 5 but cold at 6:15.  So rude.

  • Did you still serve it at 5 or did you have to wait until 6:15?
