Any ideas for a romantic weekend away the weekend after Valentines day?

My husband and I would like to get away the weekend after Valentines Day but not spend a fortune. It would be the weekend that we would be due with our first baby but I had a miscarriage in July. It is also our 5th year anniversary next year and we haven't gone away by ourselves since our honeymoon. I think it would be fun yet cheesy to go to the Poconos but that's just my thought. I didn't know if anyone else had some good ideas for like 3 days away.

  • First, I am so, so sorry for your loss.

I've never been to the Poconos, so I can't make any suggestions there!  I've heard about the champagne glass jacuzzis though!  :-)  I'm not sure where you are--but we love to go to Gettysburg for a nice weekend away.  Plenty of romatic B&Bs (DH was sure he would hate a B&B, now he loves them), things to see, shops to look around in, etc.  We've stayed at both the Keystone Inn and the Cashtown Inn.

  • http://www.covepoconoresorts.com/ this is the website to the resort with the champagne glass but I've never been there! Sounds like a much need outing for you guys!

  • We try to take a small trip every year for our anniversary so we've been to a couple local places so far that Id recommend, as well as a few that I want to go to but havent made it yet....Cities like Baltimore / Philly/ Pgh/ NYC, Small towns like Jim Thorpe / St Michaels MD / Bedford PA, Relaxing getaways like a B&B in Lancaster or your idea of the Poconos (great if you like skiing). We've also done the beach and that might be nice even in the off season--Atlantic City NJ / Cape May /Cape Cod etc. If you have a little more money to spend you could do a short cruise from Philly/baltimore/NY/NJ so you dont have to pay for airfare, only the cruise fee. Some of them are really reasonable, depending on what you want to spend.  HTH. Enjoy.

  • We spent that weekend in Hershey last year.  We did the Hershey Story, had lunch at Devon (as was recommended on this board and it was awesome), then went to Chocolate World for one of their special chocolate events.  We also went snow tubing down near Gettysburg.  You could replace that with a day of relaxation at the Hershey Spa!

  • So sorry to hear about your loss.  Nice to see you on the board, most of us are not around much anymore.  Can you believe 5 years is coming up?!?

We just came back from the Finger Lakes (Lake Cayuga).  You can find a B&B, inn, or hotel for every budget.  If you are interested I have a list of hotels and things to do somewhere from when we had our wedding up there.  I would recommend Taughannock Farms Inn, but they close January until the beginning of April. If you want to splurge Halsey House is very nice.  We have a lovely hike back a gorge yesterday morning and then went to wineries the rest of the day.

We have also stayed in Milford, which is at the top end of Delaware Water Gap park in the Poconos.  I like it because it is less touristy that down near Stroudsburg.

  • Thanks ladies- anymore who want to comment are more than welcome! I will talk to H about these and if I need any of you for more info I will track you down on here :)
  • If you want to stay locally, there is the Fire and Ice festival in Lititz that weekend.  The main street area is lined with ice sculptures.  My DH and I love going.  You could stay at the Speedwell Forge B&B or many others.  Speedwell has their own wolf sanctuary and an amazing room with jacuzzi tub as seen here: http://www.speedwellforge.com/paymastersOffice.html

     Sometime we will stay there!

I second Milford on the Del Water Gap park.  It's a cute town!

  • DH and I did a Hershey weekend for one of our dating anniversaries.  We stayed at the 1825 Inn in Palmyra (just outside of Hershey).  They have two suites with jacuzzi tub and really nice ameneties!  We did that and went and ate chinese at Marco Polo (I used to work at HMC and everyone used to rave about how good it was) and then went to the wine and spirits store and picked up some bottles of wine.  The bfast at the b&b was awesome.  THere are so many different things you could do in Hershey.  Also Lancaster Marriott @ Penn Square could be fun.  They have a spa, an indoor pool and hot tub.  The hotel itself is beautiful.  Lancaster has Central Market on Saturday's...there's a bunch of really cool restauraunts and bars in lancaster.  There is also the Fulton Theater.  You could go to a show.

  • Congress Hall in Cape May NJ. It is sooo romantic and beautiful! It is one of my favorite places. And the beach in the winter is stunning! The hotel runs specials during the winter and holiday. It's about a 3 to 3 1/2 hour drive.
