Trader Joe/Yankee Swap

Hi! My family participates in a Trader Joe or Yankee Swap game for Christmas. This is only our 2nd year doing it and I need some help with figuring out what to give! We have a $30 limit and the people who participate are men and women of various ages (from 25 to 56). Does anyone have any ideas they wouldn't mind sharing?! I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance :)

Re: Trader Joe/Yankee Swap

  • Funny, I was coming on here to ask the same question. Is your get together is a serious or more of a joke?... I am hoping for silly gift ideas. MH is planning on getting something he wants, with the hope that it will be all that is left at the end! Right now I'm leaning toward scratch tickets. I'm curious to know what other nesties come up with!
  • Last year the big hits at parties I went to were Bananagrams and liquor.  This year, so far the big hits have been an Olive Garden gift card and Red Sox beer glasses/beer bucket (I live in Mass).  Hope it helps!
  • Funny ideas I've seen before....giant package of toilet paper, adult Mad Libs, Sham-wows, pink lawn flamingos...
  • Lotto tix are always big at our Yankee Swap.

This year I got a Snuggie.  I can't wait to see people fight over it - because as much as most people will scoff at it initially, it will definitely get used!

  • Lotto tickets and beer/wine are usually the way to go with my family too! I totally agree with you on the Snuggie, maybe I'll check into that!

  • ok - so I love this party idea- haven't participated in one since college and totally forget the rules - i've read many variations online but how do YOU play and what rules have been the most fun to play by???

totally planning a party for next year!

  • We first draw numbers and the person who draws #1 is usally the best number. #'s 1 through 10 (for example) pick a gift from the pile or steal, we only allow 2 steals per turn and after #10 goes, #1 can either do nothing or steal, if they steal, whoever they steal from can steal but then thats the end of the game. The more people the better the game!
