Once I drew Pam as my SS recipient, I knew what I wanted to get her. Years ago, I had joked that I'd give her a Pyrex Portable like mine, if I ever drew her in the SS exchange. So, that was a no brainer. But, then I was able to find a lovely etsy seller who does glass etching on Pyrex plates, and I knew I just had to step it up a notch.
For those who haven't seen my reply to Pam's "Time for the big reveal, come on in Secret Santa SK " post, here's the picture of the etched Pyrex dish --

My mother was at my house when I found the etsy seller, and had my ah-ha moment. She and I got to talking, and somewhere in the course of our conversation, the original Secret Santa Scheme was hashed out. To throw Pam off my trail, I was going to send a few letters via friends who live in different parts of New England. My mom was leaving for Maine only a few days later, so the first letter was given to her for mailing when she was there. That letter was the ransom note (thanks to an online generator... man, I love all the free applications you can find on the web!)
I then started sending emails to some of my friends and family, focusing on New England and the eastern seaboard. Here's a sample email... although this one was sent to a friend in Chi-Town:
Hi Erika!
I am participating in a Secret Santa exchange with my friends. We're all sending our gifts out via the mail in mid-December. But, I feel that my "giftee" really needs a little extra touch to her gift.
What I am having my friends help me with, and what I'm asking you to do for me, is to send her a short letter that simply says:
"Your Secret Santa is searching the globe for the perfect gift for you!"
Hand-written would be ideal. No need to provide a return address. The Chicago IL postmark will suffice!
If you are willing to help me throw my friend off my trail, I'd appreciate it. I'll send you her mailing address once I know if you're game.
Thanks for your help!
Alicia
