I thought I would post this today instead of tomorrow since most people have a short week. Thanks StefandTodd for volunteering to take over this post! Hopefully you'll be more creative than I was.
I hope most of you had a great year of running and I thought it would be fun to look at the highs and lows and then what you look forward to next year.

Re: Runners - Year in review
Happy Holidays, everyone!! Thanks for all of your encouragement, support, and inspiration this year. This time last year, I NEVER EVER would've thought that I'd be answering the "runners" posts
1) What running goals did you accomplish this year?
My first and foremost goal was to run my first half marathon. All the way, without stopping. I've done two (plus a 10K, an 8.5 mile race, a 5 mile Turkey Trot, and the CIM relay...I never could've predicted/expected!!).
2) What was the happiest running moment of the year?
I think my 2nd half marathon finish - a HUGE PR, and going sub 10 min miles, was probably the happiest. Or maybe seeing that I could go sub 9 for 6 miles during the CIM relay/10K...that really shocked me. I felt like my "speed" (relative, right?
) came out of no where.
3) What was your least favorite running moment of the year?
Probably when the doctor told me he suspected stress fracture of my hip and told me to stop running. I didn't think I'd be able to keep running, or run my first "goal" half, and I was so bummed.
4) Approx how many miles did you run this year?
My first run was 5/26, and from then to today - 383 miles.
5) What are your running goals for next year?
I would like to go sub-2 hours in my Shamrock'n half in March, take on the Parkway Half in May for a PR, and just generally keep up my running. I'd also like to do another CIM relay next year. And get into the mindset and mode to start thinking of maybe the full CIM in 2012.
6) What do you hope Santa brings you for Christmas? (running related gifts)
I honestly can't think of anything I really need, running related. I really wanted a spibelt, but then I got one. Technically, Todd got me my Garmin a few months ago, and I made him promise that that is my Xmas gift - so technically, I already got that "for Xmas"...
I also already got some new running socks, Gu, and an iTunes GC (gift exchange). T told me his mom "did her homework" on the running stuff and got me something awesome -- I cannot, for the life of me, think of what it is though.
Love this post!!!
1) What running goals did you accomplish this year? I ran a 1/2 marathon!!! That has been crossed of my life accomplishments
2) What was the happiest running moment of the year? The moment I saw all my friends after I finished the SJ RnR with that medal around my neck. Everyone took pictures of me with my medal even though I was tired, sweaty, cranky and all I wanted was a bloody mary! I was an emotional wreck (in a good way) because I did something I would never have done and I had felt my mother's presence the entire time.
3) What was your least favorite running moment of the year? Ha! It was after my first training run of double digits. I had hit a huge mental road block and it sucked. I wanted to quit and not go on. However, when I posted this on FB and here, I learned I was not alone. It took me awhile to push through it.
4) Approx how many miles did you run this year? Oh god, alot. I can not even keep track. At least 300 miles????
5) What are your running goals for next year? Well, the same group I ran the 9 miles of the Big Sur, wants me to do it again but I will figure that out in January. Definitely not a 1/2 in my near future. I want to get better times in my 5K and 10K's and lose some serious wt. Trying to lose weight and train for a 1/2, do not work.
6) What do you hope Santa brings you for Christmas? (running related gifts) Well, Santa already got me some new running shoes (yay!). I do need some more long pants for the colder months too. I am good on everything else.
2) What was the happiest running moment of the year? Running Nike with my husband, running Big Sur with all of my running friends.
3) What was your least favorite running moment of the year? Mile 4 at CIM where my hip locked up dashing my hope to complete the full marathon.
4) Approx how many miles did you run this year? Hmm, I need to update my blog, but I think I am at around 900+ miles. I wanted to run over 1000 but that is just not going to happen due to my injuries.
5) What are your running goals for next year? To run injury free. To have an official sub 2 hour half marathon. To run a race while pregnant.
6) What do you hope Santa brings you for Christmas? (running related gifts) An extension to my gym membership so I can continue to strengthen my hips and have access to a treadmill!
1) What running goals did you accomplish this year?
I didn't set any specific goals - which I think caused me to have the running blues and I lost my running mojo for a while.
2) What was the happiest running moment of the year?
Getting a new PR in a road 10K by 5:30; I've only run 2 on the road but this was at sub 10 pace and gave me more confidence that I should run faster pace wise.
3) What was your least favorite running moment of the year?
Losing my mojo and not having signed up for any long distance after my trail half marathon in May (the wedding planning and stuff got in the way of race fees).
4) Approx how many miles did you run this year? No idea as I didn't keep track. Last year I logged between 1100-1300 miles (trained for 2 full marathons and 2 half marathons last year) and this year was nothing compared to that.
5) What are your running goals for next year? Keep trail running, sign up for a few half marathons, maybe a full (but that depends on when DH and I attempt to start our family).
6) What do you hope Santa brings you for Christmas? (running related gifts) I just bought a new running headlamp for myself, hopefully I can get a new pair of tights.
IUI #1 10/12/11 (Bravelle + HCG + Prometrium & acupuncture) = 10/26 BFP! Beta #1=250, Beta #2= 615. 1st u/s 11/8.
1) What running goals did you accomplish this year? ran my first marathon (still haven't changed my siggie...oops)
2) What was the happiest running moment of the year? when my sister signed up for C25K and registered us for the Davis Stampede--she is already at week 5 of C25K and I could not be prouder!
3) What was your least favorite running moment of the year? finishing just over 4 hours on my marathon--it was a great experience but slightly disappointing.
4) Approx how many miles did you run this year? unknown
5) What are your running goals for next year? run at least one 5K with my sister...run 2 halfs in places I haven't done (thinking maybe Avenue of the Giants in May...)
6) What do you hope Santa brings you for Christmas? (running related gifts) an upgrade to my 24 Hr Fitness membership--I normally go to Walnut Creek, but since they've been "renovating" for the month of December, I've been allowed to go to Moraga...it's SO much nicer!
1) What running goals did you accomplish this year? Well, I didn't make any, so that's easy. haha.
2) What was the happiest running moment of the year? Completing my first real race (10k) in record time - for me!)
3) What was your least favorite running moment of the year? Trying to find new shoes. The process kills me. I over-analyze and it usually is a huge headache.
4) Approx how many miles did you run this year? I have NO idea. If I were to estimate... I'd guess somewhere in the 250-300mi range.
5) What are your running goals for next year? I'm seriously considering a half in spring.
6) What do you hope Santa brings you for Christmas? (running related gifts) I'd really like a garmin watch, but since I didn't ask santa for it, santa probably doesn't knwo and won't bring it.

This was a tough year for me since I was sidelined starting in May when I got pg and was put on pelvic rest. Always thought I would be the running pg lady, but obviously, growing a healthy baby became more impt.
1) What running goals did you accomplish this year? None, although I think eventually finding peace at having to give it up for the year is a good accomplishment
2) What was the happiest running moment of the year? I had some good training runs back in the spring with a friend when I was going to run the See Jane Run half in June.
3) What was your least favorite running moment of the year? Giving it up. Actually, at first it was easy b/c I was feeling so crappy, but during the 2nd tri, I was pretty bummed that my ideals of how I would be as a pg lady were dashed.
4) Approx how many miles did you run this year?
5) What are your running goals for next year? To run again! I think I'll aim to run a half in the fall, and I've always said I'll run CIM when I am 30, which is this next year, so maybe I'll train for that, but I'm trying to be realistic about that and also working full time and being a mom.
6) What do you hope Santa brings you for Christmas? (running related gifts) I didn't ask for anything running related, but I'll probably need some new running bras when I get back into it

BTW - Tonic, I thought you did a great job.
I'm happy Stef is taking over so it doesn't stop altogether. Though I don't always stay faithful to the check-ins, I do love them when I am able to check in and I love to watch the other runners' progress.
Can you tell me more about this? Why did you have to stop? I signed up for the half in March and would really like to do the one in May...and we're actively TTC. I am so fascinated by the pregnancy/running connection and why some do and others don't...do you mind sharing? You can email or fb message me or respond here...tia!!
A few things happened:
First, I had spotting on and off the first tri, and so I was put on pelvic rest as a precaution b/c spotting can be caused by so many factors. They did finally figure out towards the end of 1st tri that the spotting was caused by cervical polyps (which I still have) and I continued to spot really throughout the pregnancy. Its always scary, so even once I was cleared to exercise again, I took it pretty easy. (plus after not running for 10+ weeks I didn't think it made sense to start from scratch)
Also, I felt TERRIBLE from week 7 through about week 16. i didn't even realize how bad I felt until it was over. I ate almost nothing for those 9 weeks and gained almost no weight. Maybe working out more would have helped, but I had so little energy, I could barely even get through the workday.
I ended up being a super nervous nelly pregnant lady, so I really took a lot of precautions in the exercise dept. I *might* be more relaxed next time, but really, I have no idea. I did keep up with prenatal yoga and walking and some swimming, but mostly I just can't wait to sweat again

Ah thanks
I love the check ins too. I just need a break and was hoping someone might breathe new life into it and come up with new questions and what not

Butting in: I was able to run with my second pregnancy but not my first. So every pg is different. You can check my blog for my journalling of running through 2nd pregnancy.
I can understand this concern. I have a good friend who had to stop running because of SPD (pelvic separation). She had a hard time giving up running but with the pain didnt have a choice. She does the elliptical, swims, and bikes. I have another friend who ran up until the week before she gave birth. Both were hard core runners. So it really depends on the person and you just don't know until after you are pregnant what will happen. The unknown sucks!

I ended up with mild SPD as well. For a few weeks I could barely get errands done. Pregnancy does crazy things to your body.

My friend that just had her twins made a comment not long ago about how she was really concerned her SIL was still running and 18 weeks pg. When I asked why she was concerned if her doctor said it was okay, she said she didn't think anyone should run pg. So there are those people too, and it always just makes me wonder...who knows how I'll actually feel when the time comes, but I am totally still trying to be my uber-planner self and "plan" for being able to or not...obviously, not entirely possible if pg is what I want first and foremost.
Thanks for answering guys
Yup, there are people who will just say you shouldnt run when pregnant and they have no idea what they are talking about. Just ignore them. Honestly, I think keeping active as long as you can is a good thing and will help you in the end of pregnancy. But what do I know
Cooking Blog
yeah, there are people who will say you shouldn't run. but if you're already in shape, keep it up as long as you can!
Pregnancy has been a real lesson for me in giving up control, something I'm not good at and still haven't mastered 8 months later

I see this as me in the future. Ugh. I like to be in control and I really hope my body allows me to continue to exercise to some extent while pg. Thanks for sharing your experiences L and Tri! Great information to know!
Stef---we are in similar boats and I am *trying* to just go with the flow! Can you perhaps wait until the last moment to register for races? Train for them but not register until close to the actual date? Planning for the future is always hard! My motto is one step at a time!
I want a personalized bib!
Loving this post.

1. What running goals did you accomplish this year?
Finishing my 1/2 marathon in July under 2 hours and running the whole thing. Felt GOOD crossing that finish line!
2. What was the happiest running moment of the year?
Crossing that finish line in July! It was a tough race that I trained for alone, but a good accomplishment.
3. What was your least favorite running moment of the year?
The anxiety I would feel the night before a long run, a not-very-good long training run, hip pain during training, and bad foot pain post-race. (Yikes....Debbie Downer here!)
4. Approx how many miles did you run this year?
I'd say between 550-600 somewhere. Should keep better track in 2011. Mr. Garmin will help with that.
5. What are your running goals for next year?
2 half marathons....first one probably San Diego Rock n Roll. I'd like to finish in under 2 hours again, maybe shoot for under 1:50.
6. What do you hope Santa brings you for Christmas?
Long sleeve running shirts (were on my list). That's about all I need right now....
1) What running goals did you accomplish this year? Wow. I actually consider myself a runner now. I successfully trained for and ran (2) 10k's. I completed my goals for each one and improved on my time on the 2nd one.
2) What was the happiest running moment of the year? Finishing the first 10k was so exciting and emotional and overwhelming. I felt like I could fly. It was an amazing feeling.
3) What was your least favorite running moment of the year? My last short training run before my first big race. I was feeling pain and stress and it made me afraid that I wouldn't have the race that I wanted to have.
4) Approx how many miles did you run this year? I have no idea. I wish I had kept track! I will next year.
5) What are your running goals for next year? Next year I will run a half marathon. I want to do more races, 10k's and 5k's. I want to get really comfortable with races in general. I'm always so nervous and I think that doing a lot more of them will help with that.
6) What do you hope Santa brings you for Christmas? (running related gifts) A Garmin watch. I'll likely buy it after the new year.
Learning to start all over again... Blog
I just wanted to chime in and say you are all a great inspiration! My main fitness goal is to start running next year. I've already started, but I'm really looking forward to committing for a year.
I'm planning my first 5K to be a St. Patty's Day Run. Depending on how I feel after that, I'll run an 8K in May. September a 10K and possibly a half marathon in October. Choosing these events have made me really excited.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
1) What running goals did you accomplish this year? My goal this year was to complete more than one half marathon. I only did two but that is more than one.
2) What was the happiest running moment of the year? The best moment for me was during the Rock n Roll half I was truly having fun. I left my watch at home and just ran. It was totally liberating to not have to worry about my pace and time.
3) What was your least favorite running moment of the year? Probably the See Jane Run half and how they ran out of water around mile 8. It was horrible.
4) Approx how many miles did you run this year? hmmm I will have to look at home on my watch. I have no idea.
5) What are your running goals for next year? I am taking a break from running as you can see from my ticker below. I am doing a lot more walking and low impact activity.
6) What do you hope Santa brings you for Christmas? (running related gifts) hmm I would still like to get my Runners World.
I am kind of holding back on registering for races for 2011 b/c it is so up in the air with IF and all the processes that goes along with this. I am still going to continue to run until I will be told by my doc to limit or stop running when I do become PG.
Awesome! I look forward to hearing about your progress!
