Back into wedding planning mode!

Well, H and I don't even have our pro pics yet (not even the proofs!) and my oldest sister got engaged this weekend! I am really happy for her as this is something she's dreamed of for a long time. It just feels so weird jumping right back into that mode so soon. I bought her a wedding planner/organizer for Christmas. I suspect 2011 will be the year. :) I don't want to assume I'll be a BM, but it's likely. Now I can kind of relate to you ladies who are in friends/family members' wedding parties in 2011!

Re: Back into wedding planning mode!

  • I'm in a good friend's wedding at the end of March, but I'm not planning it with her. She's got that covered. I'm just waiting for her to tell me where to be when.

  • Yeah, I could see that! :) I of course will not be doing the bulk of my sister's planning, either... it's her wedding, after all... but it will probably be a family effort, no doubt. She was my right-hand lady for a lot of my wedding details, so I actually hope I'll get to share in some of her details!
  • Congratulations to your sister! She must be so thrilled!

2011 seems to be the year everyone around us is getting married! We have 5 to go to and one that both my husband and I are in. Yikes!  :oP

5?? Wow! I actually thought my "circle" would be slowing down in 2011 (went to a string of weddings in 08/09), but there are two other close friends I am anticipating will be 2011 brides too, now. I guess it will be a fun year!

  • Congratulations!  That's great news!  You can be such a huge help to her since you just did everything, so I know you'll be doing some more planning.

My oldest childhood friend (who actually came to India for our wedding) is planning to get married soon, probably summer of 2011, and I have a feeling two other friends plus one cousin are going to make the announcement soon.  And my fingers are crossed for my SIL as well.  She's probably going to have an arranged marriage and DH and I are working on a guy so we'll see.  I told her to give us a year to recover before we do the whole thing again LOL!

I thought I would be the last, but that one is in October. The ones on 1/1/11 and 3/26 are 2nd marriages. By the time you get my age, the cycle starts all over (unfortunately of course, one was widowed and the other's exH went nuts).

  • Zara, whatever your role will be I'm sure it will be a lot easier to help with since a lot of the stress is off of you as a potential bridesmaid.  It's very different to help with planning a wedding and planning your own.  SO glad we just have to go through it once!

Sarah - ah good point on the cycle starting over! At least weddings are joyous occasions most of the time.

Ah, how great your are helping your SIL! Although yes, I can imagine you need a year to recover lol.

jmkes - yes, amen to only having to plan our own once! :-D As the day has progressed, I've gotten more and more giddy about this wedding since the pressure is off me and H haha. Whew.

  • That's exciting! I would be so much more of a help to my sister if her wedding was after mine, hers was the first I was in!

I only have 3 so far to go to in 2011 (possible 4th but not likely) - which is a VERY slow year compared to 2009 and 2010 (5 and 6 weddings for those years), and I am only in 1! Love being a BM though lol

  • My older sister got engaged last week too!  I am the MOH and I am looking forward to doing this as an outsider.  Her engagement had been a long time coming, and I know she was getting a little anxcious waiting for her FI to propose.   I am glad everything came together for her.

Bridgied - Congrats to your older sister! So exciting!!

Manda - yes wouldn't it have been nice to have been able to help our sisters after our own? I look back and wish I knew then what I knew now (I have two other sisters, already married).
