This may be really bad timing

to be getting tightening of my chest and pain and numbness in my left arm.  It started about 2 weeks ago after some correspondence with my ex. I thought I was having a bit of an anxiety attack and didn't think much else of it. The chest pain hasn't been back since then.

But the tight/uncomfortable/heavy/numbness feeling down mainly my left arm, but also somewhat in my right arm has been pretty much daily since then.  I finally called the doc as I know this can be a pre-cursor to heart issues, but they can't get me in until 1/3.  (I do find this strange that a doctor would put off seeing someone with possible cardiac issues for 2 weeks...but whatever.)

My last day of work (therefore also my insurance) is 1/5.  I'm starting the new job on 1/10...but my new insurance won't go into effect until 3/1.  I'm trying not to worry too much until I see him...but my concerns/irritations are this:

if something is wrong, he could possibly keep me from starting new job. Old job is already in process of hiring my replacement.  I could very possibly end up with no job, no insurance, and serious medical issues. And I can't afford the almost $700.00/month for Cobra.

  • That is very scary and I too can't believe the Dr. would put you off for that long.  Try to get some rest and stay away from stressful situations for the next couple weeks if you can help it.

Lots of knottie vibes that everything turns out ok. You are in my thoughts!

  • I'd call up your doctor again and let them know that it's a serious issue that has been happening for a few weeks and that you'd like to get in right away. If they can't, I'd go to an on-call/walk-up clinic or something.

It's probably nothing, but it sure seems like something you'd want to deal with right away.

I hope everything is ok!!! Get some rest and try to relax.

  • Dizziness? Nausea? Vomitting? What's your AP? Have you taken your blood pressure? I think i'd go straight to the emergency room. Take an aspirin and go. I wouldn't want to wait two weeks. Even if it is anxiety.

  • I agree with Kim and Deb, go to the ER now!  It is not worth waiting on something like this.  It sounds as though it has gone on a while as it is.  Take care of yourself!

  • Thanks for the concern ladies...I did call the doc back and question the delay in getting in.  The receptionist apparently had not quite conveyed the symptoms.  They saw me yesterday...did EKG which was fine.  My labs were just done a few weeks ago by Occ Health at the hospital I'm starting at...and they all look great.  He sent me for more to be done for comparison, though.  BP is great: 117/68.

No real acute symptoms...no nausea, seating, dizziness.  But he did recognize that I have several "prodromal" symptoms of heart issues. The weird feeling in my left arm is still there...on and off every day.  Not sleeping well, headaches, fatigue...but that could all be major stress symptoms as well. Since tests are all coming back good..he's assuming it's more stress/muscle tension related.

Their supposed to call me with finding of complete blood work and testing when it all comes in.

  • I'm glad to hear that so far everything is coming back normal. At least you know it's not a major health issue.

I'm thinking a massage/day at the spa is in order! You know, doctor's orders and all! Stick out tongue

  • Glad to hear you're ok. Now go take a bubble bath and read a book. Have H take care of everything else for the day!
