What is everyone's plan for New Years Eve? I may be spending my first NYE in MN this year, but I am not sure what we would do. We don't want to spend a crazy amount of money or go to any huge party. Does anyone have any suggestions for fun things to do here?
Or what are your plans for New Years?
Re: New Years Eve....
my read shelf:
We usually have a nice dinner with friends, and then we stay up drinking champagne, and then we crash at their house and they make us breakfast in the morning
The tradition started because they used to throw big parties for NYE, but over the years it's evolved into nice little mellow dinner party. We mostly just spend the night for old time's sake...
NYE always used to be such a huge deal with us. But, since getting pregnant with Olivia, and having kids, we just don't do anything anymore.
We used to get together with all of our friends and do something every year...bar hop, have a party at somebody's house, do a nice fancy dinner & go out after. One year we rented a stretch limo with all of our friends and went bar hopping in Minneapolis...that was such a blast, by far my favorite.
Now, we usually head over to our friends house who have a LO the same age as Olivia, eat junk food, watch them play and head home as soon as the ball drops.
We will be in Cusco, Peru for NYE. Been reading up on the traditions down there and it sounds crazy insane awesome :-) Certain colors mean you will have certain things, so people wear the color they are hoping for- yellow= luck, green= money, etc. I picked up some yellow for DH and I to wear. Lots of people usually congregate in the Plaza de Armas and at the strike of 12 people run around the square 12 times. Some people eat 12 grapes at midnight. All of these things are supposed to carry you into the new year with good luck. Oh yeah, and if you want to travel in the next year you're supposed to bring empty luggage out with you :-)

I used to go out, but kids + no babysitter = no more.
Now we just get together with other couples in our situation, play games and hang out til midnight and then go home.
We might have some friends over for food, games, movies, etc. Very low key.
DH and I have only gone out once for NYE. It was only our 4th or 5th date and we met some of my friends at Gameworks Downtown. Usually DH and I just stay home, watch tv/movies, order pizza, and go to bed when the ball drops in NYC.
