Home Beer Brewing Gift Set?

I want to buy one of these for SO. It is something he has just become interested in, so obviously this is a last minute gift and I am not sure how to research a good one quickly. Has anyone purchased one before that turned out well? Looking to spend around $100. Thanks!

Re: Home Beer Brewing Gift Set?

  • Luckily we are very close to Dogfish Head's brewing operation & they actually told us to go to Extreme Brewing in Millsboro, DE. I believe they have a website -

We got our home brewing kit there and all told everything we needed was around $150. You will need a huge (ill have to ask FI what size it was again, I think like 26 quarts) Stainless Steel pot though NOT aluminum, and that can be pricey. If you use an aluminum pot to do the brewing in, you will risk aluminum poisoning, so don't do it.

The people at Extreme Brewing were extremely helpful, told us exactly what we needed for it to come out right, and are extremely knowledgable.

My BIL just started this, and that's where he gets his stuff from.  They have a lot of starter kits, and then you can upgrade individual pieces (larger pots, fancier equipment) if you feel the need in the future.  The site has a lot of reviews, which I found really helpful in making selections - people would let you know what was the best value, what is worth splurging on, or what was practically useless.
