Moving soon - please help!

Hi, everyone!  H and I are moving to Decatur on January 10th for him to do his rotations at DeKalb (sp?) Medical Center and we need to find an apartment to rent - fast.  We have a cat, so we need a place that accepts pets.  His friend looked at Woodland Hills, but I read terrible reviews online about an ongoing roach problem. Ick!  He was also going to look at Park Summit Apartments for us, but I've read nasty reviews about that place as well and quite frankly, the apartment they have available sounds really small.

I've tried Googling but I'm not finding much around that area.

Our budget is around $800/mo tops and I would prefer at least 750 sq ft for Mittens to have some space to run around.

If someone can suggest a complex I can look into that's clean, safe, and doesn't have a roach problem, I would be very grateful.  We don't have the time or money to get down there to look in person before we move.

This isn't in Decatur its actually South Buckhead however this is where DH and I first lived when we moved to Atlanta. I thought the location was wonderful, we paid 799 a month for a 2 Bedroom 2 Bath. The walls were a bit thin, but I don't remeber any type of bugs. Warning, get an apartment on the top floor, I believe some of the bottom floors flodded once.

    Good luck to you!!

  • I don't know that area of town really well. In general Post and Gables properties are nice and a bit more upscale without being too expensive. Most Gables complexes are also pet friendly.

  • Thanks for helping.  Unfortunately, the first one was too far away/too far north for DH's commute and the second one was wayyy too expensive.

We thought we found something good with Parkway Grand, but apparently the area has crime and one review said eight gunshots??

    Oy.

  • Have you tried calling ProMove? They are usually a big help and may be able to work out some discounts or know specials the apartment complexes are running. Also crime is indeed a concern here in Atlanta so be aware.

  • My husband used to live at the Calibre Woods complex on LaVista and liked it pretty well - actually there are several complexes along LaVista you could check out.  It would be about a 15 minute drive to Dekalb Medical from there - not sure how close you want to be but that area is a good location b/c it's not too far from the city and pretty close to Decatur.
  • You may also want to check out Arbor Hills on North Druid Hills. I lived in the Emory area for 6 years and loved it - safe and convenient. Highland Lake would also be a great option, as well as Post Briarcliff.
